With all the advertising they do, they must sell a ton of these things.
Thing is, I’ve never known anyone who has actually ever bought one. . .well, except for me. One year, while studying for exams, I bought a Chia professor and kept him in my office so I’d be sure to go over every day and tend to him.
I had a Chia Kitty when I was a kid. It pretty much worked just like it was supposd to, although it wasn’t highly entertaining. I believe it got thrown away.
I bought one for my son. He thought it was hilarious and it grew quite well, actually. It was the dude with the afro. No holiday is complete without it!
A cheap, knockoff of a cheap present. Someone loves you.
The commercial makes it look fun, like a giant full bushy head of hair grows overnight. In reality, it’s hard to make the thing stick. It gets a little dirty. It grows unevenly.
Maybe I need to make it a holiday tradition to grow a Chia over Xmas each year. Wouldn’t that be nice?
I bought the Chia Scooby Doo for my 7 yr old son. It’s a fun thing to grow for a child because it takes off so fast. They have Chia Herb Gardens also. Maybe I’ll try one of those.
My four year old daughter and I just started one this morning. Its the lion from the movie Madagascar. We would have started it yesterday only I’m an idiot. On Saturday, we opened the box and read (part of) the directions, which said to soak the Chia head in water for 24 hours. Well, that was a little disappointing for the kid, because she wanted to grow some Chia NOW! But anyway, we had fun filling a bowl and letting the lion go for a swim.
Come Sunday, we thought we’d be all ready for planting, right until I read the second line of the directions, which says to soak the seeds for 24 hours. DAMN! Child was again disappointed, but we had fun measuring out the seeds and water and then mixing them up (sticky seeds everywhere).
Remarkably, despite her two previous disappointments, this morning she was still excited to plant the Chia seeds. She operated the spoon to heap the seeds on the head, while I manned the spatula, troweling the seed mix on the head. Mrs. Nrd was very impressed with my seed troweling ability.
I think we did a good job with seed coverage, but we’ll see.
Right after that, I saw an ad for Chia Gourmet Herb Garden. Needless to say, I’m intrigued.
I had a Chia Scooby head. It grew very nicely; I had some trouble keeping the seeds at the very top moist though. Once the plants started dying, they peeled off very easily. My second batch of seeds grew nicely too. When that batch of vegetation started dying off, I went to peel off the mass and discovered some kind of larvae squirming around.
Had a Chia sheep, I think it was. My brother, who was a toddler at the time, knocked it over by accident and it shattered. Poor thing. Wish they sold them here.
