Ever kill a man?

This is correct.

Thanks to all for the serious responses. Responses like dahfisheroo’s was what I was really hoping for, because I never have heard it talked about honestly. In movies killing is fairly normal, with the killers never seeming to mind, but I knew in real life it was different.

I never really thought about just how different it would be, though. This has been fairly enlightening, in that I now know why you never hear it talked about so openly.

Several of the responses prior to yours were serious (including mine, which dahfisheroo expanded on quite eloquently).

Thanks for contributing to the noisy chatter, though.

Not very traumatic, just another day of cowboys and indians in Fallujah (and other parts of Iraq).

I don’t think I’ve changed much.

Well said, Inigo, well said. Add in the factors voluntarily training for that moment for most of your life, and perhaps you even enjoyed it?

My cowboy doesn’t think so either.

But instead of killing him, couldn’t you have fired two warning shots? Into his head?

From Miami Blues:

“Stop or I’ll shoot!”
“You just shot me!”
“I fired a warning shot…and it hit ya!”

My short answer…I’m not sure.
In the early 80’s i was an FTG on a nuke Cruiser. I fired round after round as cover for the american evacuation of Lebanon. We were 3 miles off shore firing 12+/- miles inland into druse militia positions…best I can say is, i don’t know.

Depends on the self-selection of Dopers.
