I unintentionally got someone into trouble with his employer. I had no idea (really) that he would be reprimanded. Now, I feel guilty. What would be the best way to make amends?
A simple apology? A small gift?

Besides grade school trifles, not really. But I have one I’ll do now:
I just recently (because I didn’t know any better) asked someone on these boards about some help picking a file-sharing program to find some certain files.
They told me it was a no-no but then proceeded to give me the information anyway, only to get a warning from the mods! Now I realize: “So, what? It was a warning, unless they’re asking for trouble then they won’t do it again, so no harm done.”

Damn, in addition to board policies, I’m also completely ignorant of vB formatting in my posts!
I’d recommend a long, honest conversation with this person you got in trouble. Take responsibility for what you did, and it will go a long way towards salvaging the friendship.
This is a matter of opinion rather than fact, so I’ll move this thread to IMHO.
