I worked with a guy in the early 80’s who had been a contestant on “The Price Is Right”. He won some patio furniture and a TV, but the prizes weren’t shipped until the program aired. He spent a lot of time searching for retailers that would give him a written quote on the exact same items that he had won. He was trying to establish the lowest possible price to claim on his fed. tax return.
Anyone have a similar experience?
A friend of mine won $18,000 and a car on The Price is Right. He said that Vanna White was much more attractive in person than on TV. I think he got more bragging value out of getting a hug and kiss on the cheek from Vanna than from the car and the money!
I think you’ve got your shows mixed up, but I appreciate the response.
Maybe I should have said “game” shows instead of “quiz” shows.
A guidance counseler at my high school (awesome guy who I still keep in touch with) was a multiple-time champion on Jeopardy, sometime in the late 80’s or something.
We have several Jeopardy contestents in our presence on this board, I’m sure they’ll be along shortly.
Just for the record, I meant to type Wheel of Fortune…I even previewed that post! Please excuse my farting brain.
Five Time Champ, you’re wanted in MPSIMS. Five Time Champ, MPSIMS.
I was on a thing on UK telly in 1999 called Win Beadle’s Money, which was an identikit of Win Ben Stein’s Money but with the legendary Jeremy Beadle as the host.
I got into the challenge round but only matched the number of right answers (9 out of 10) so won £300 rather than £1,000.
Oh, hi there :o . There are a number of Dopers who appeared onJeopardy!
h. sapiens was also a 5 time undefeated champion. She was in the Ultimate Tournament of Champions eariler this year, as was I. Unfortunately neither of us won our first round game.
Twickster[b/] was a 3 time champ, Wallon, [b/]Mr Moto came in second. man who held the record for highest one-day total [new style] for a while. August West was on last year sometime. Someone keeps a spreadsheet.
I won $52,703 & a 2002 Chevy Tahoe back in 2001. It is great to finally put all the otherwise useless information to good use.
The staff of the Jeopardy! treats the contestants very well, surprisingly well. At least that staff that the contestants can interact with. It would be nice, however, if they would pay the travel expenses. Because if you don’t win your game, it really ends up costing you money.
The game goes very quickly, fastest half-hour in my life I think.
