Every frame a painting: great Youtube channel on cinema

I just found it yesterday and it may be the best resource on movies I have ever come across, with some really sharp and entertaining videos on different aspects of film technique often focusing on a particular filmmaker.

Some of the videos I liked: Kurosawa’s use of simple geometrical shapes in his compositions, how Jackie Chan does action comedy, Satoshi Kon’s editing style and Martin Scorcese’s use of silence.

The videos pack a lot of analysis and can be watched again and again.I imagine they take a lot of work and he only adds a few every month but in a couple of years I think this will be a great resource for anyone who wants to learn about cinema.

Tony Zhou, who makes the videos, did an AMAon Reddit if you are interested in learning more about him.

I watched the Jackie Chan one a few weeks ago and really enjoyed it. Thanks for reminding me to go back and watch the others.

Just watched the Kurosawa one, since that’s where your first link went.

Brilliant! And so very right.

Off to watch more. Thank you for letting me know about this guy.
