Evil messages blocked by AT&T

AT&T doesn’t like folk learning about words and their etymological roots!? I’m a subscriber to A.Word.A.Day as provided by wordsmith.org - a work of Anu Garg. I’ve no received no dalies for the last week, and was advised of the filtering issue yesterday. Their email:

We’ve been hearing from att.net subscribers about non-receipt of A.Word.A.Day
mailings. AT&T Worldnet is blocking email from wordsmith.org. You may want to
call them and tell/yell them to stop that. We’ve called/written to no avail.

If you’ve any questions, please contact us at info@wordsmith.org.

Thanks!

I’ve already emailed AT&T customer service, but I may as well talk to the tree outside the window.

Wtf? have you gotten hold of ATT yet? You should register a complaint - the front line lackies may have heard of this but won’t be able to tell you why - it’ll have to go back to the ISP group before anyone actually knows who/what/why it was done, likely.

BTW, please don’t yell, from a former tech support agent - the person who answers the phone is really rarely to blame.

woops, I missed the last line - be sure to get a ticket # from them.

I subscribe to word a day too, and Yahoo! thinks they are spammers, their emails always end up in my bulk email folder.

Well… seeing as my company does the vast majority of AT&T’s spam blocking…
we’re taking a look into it right now.

I can’t let you know… but we’ll fix it if it’s us.

Wow! You mean complaining about something in the Pit can actually cause it to get fixed? I’m impressed!

::makes a note to take future ignored customer service issues to the SDMB before resorting to the tree outside my window::

I love this place.

Check the wordaday message and click the button that says “this is not spam” and you will get them in your inbox.

Thank you Cortana.

I want my words back.

If Yahoo ever decided my AWAD emails were spam, I don’t know what I’d do. Through a brief experiment with my bulk mail folder, I luckily found out they were not.

The Joke-of-the-Day emails, on the other hand…

So you haven’t received any for the past week? I’d say that’s Monday through Friday. I’ll give you the words, even if you’ve checked them out on the website. (I’ll assume you got the week having to do with war) This week’s theme was terms from Latin.
Monday, Sept. 8: sui generis, “Of its own kind; unique.” [From Latin sui (of its own) + generis (kind).]

Tuesday, Sept. 9: tu quoque, “A retort accusing one’s accuser of the same offense.” [From Latin, literally thou also.]

Wednesday, Sept. 10: ipse dixit, “An assertion without supporting proof.” [From Latin, literally, he himself said it.]

Thursday, Sept. 11: a fortiori, “For an even stronger reason; even more so.” [From Latin, literally from the stronger.]

Friday, Sept. 12: ad lib, "noun

  1. Improvised speech, music.

  2. Freely, without restriction.

verb tr.

To perform music, speech, etc. spontaneously.

verb intr.

To improvise.

adjective

Improvised, impromptu." [From Latin ad libitum (at pleasure).]

Hope your problem gets fixed soon!

Well there’s the problem right there, Tuesday and Wednesday. Gotta filter out messages with quoques and dix in them.

Any update, Cortana?

AT&T hasn’t responded to my email of inquiry, and AWAD isn’t happening as of this morning.

Many thanks.

Hey, is AT&T one of those cocksucking lazy assed layabout ISP’s that use spews.org for their anti-spam blacklist? I’ve seen dozens, if not hundreds, of legitimate websites who are on this shit group’s list. Aparently, this group drops entire subnets on their lists of ‘spam’ IP’s, and this has led to the blacklisting of Wordsmith.org, SomethingAwful.com, Worth1000.com, the entire DSL subnet in Brazil, the entire A-level subnet in Egypt, and the entire D-level subnet occupied by my old ISP, ftc-i.net (Farmers Telephone Co-op.) These fuckers ‘carpet bomb’ the internet to block one or two spammers, who then simply sign up with AOL or Yahoo! or MSN Hotmail (who are big enough to go toe-to-toe with spews.org and pummel the bastards) and continue their spree, leaving these legit ISP’s and individual IP users stuck. What a crock!
