Evilest Englishman/woman

He’s still alive but his song says it all:

“I’d rather see you dead little girl than to be with other men…
…you better run for life if you can, little girl.”

That guy terrifies me with his twisted priorities, he made a lot of noise about eating and skinning animals, but not once in his long life has he disputed that trapping innocent people in cages, killing people for their flesh and wearing their skins is 100% ethical and okay.

Douglas Jardine, hands down.

Bob Hope?

So I’m putting in my vote for whatever Englishman invented FONT SIZES.

They were good to their mother.

That wasn’t even illegal never mind ‘evil’. At the time simple capitalism.

Edmund, Duke of Edinburgh was very bad indeed with many a cunning plan - a horrid little man.

Nope. He didn’t ask anything from the Australian batsmen that he wasn’t willing to ask of himself. When the West Indian quicks gave England a taste of their own medicine the following year, Jardine stood up to it - even told Leslie Ames who was a superb batsman to get himself to the non-striker’s end while he, Jardine, dealt with “this nonsense” - and made the only hundred of his Test career.

Australians have never been quick to cry when they’ve had the fast-bowling resources to bully the other side, but how they squeal when the boot’s on the other foot. :stuck_out_tongue:

Let’s not talk about cricket please, especially against the Aussies…

If you are talking about the current series there are two teams out there but only one of them is playing cricket.

I’d have to go with Cromwell. So awful that even revisionist historians haven’t managed to rehabilitate his reputation.

England and Scotland are different countries.

It is hard to single out any particular Englishman/woman since it appears to be a group effort, so those responsible for the opium trade and the ensuing wars against China, helping to destroy two of the largest economies and societies in the world with one go (though India was well on the way to destruction before then. So a special shout out to Robert Clive for getting that process going.)

Side note - not being a strong student in this area, but how much power did Queen Victoria possess during this period, or had all functional power been transferred to Parliament by then? If she had refused to ratify the Treaty of Nanking, could she have been overruled?

I wonder if you can call someone who was not born English as the most evil Englishman.

Perhaps the most English person throughout the existence of a nation called England is the monarch.

So where would William the Bastard fit in? The terrorism infected on South East England which was used to draw Hardrader into battle was pretty appalling, but then you can also count a few decades of murder mayhem and brutal suppression to his list of crimes.

He certainly had the most horrible funeral … allegedly, he was badly embalmed and, during his funeral, his corpse literally exploded from the foul rotting gasses that built up inside, sending his mourners fleeing in horror.

The Pogues would certainly agree:

Napoleon wasn’t born in France nor was he of French descent, but many consider him the most evil person from France.

But he was born French, true. Barely, though.

Against Pétain? Le Pen? King Argovax the Bloodgnasher?

Well, from outside France, Napoleon is viewed as evil. Within the borders, it’s probably a different story.

we’re at least given a hunch
