Now, I don’t agree with everything I’ve ever read from Rev. Graham, but at least he’s nice. He seems to really have a message for anyone who’s curious/interested. He’s just, I would say, a middle of the road Christian preacher. Take him or leave him.
(No, I’m not going. Doesn’t interest me that much.)
But, here comes Fred, breathing fire and brimstone, actually stopping people on their way in to see Rev. Graham, berating them for supporting a blasphemy. Calling Graham (and anyone supporting him) a heretic.
And doing it with style and class. He had a bull horn, and was “behaving as a prophet.” (iow, acting crazy)
What hate this man has! Where did it all come from?
And why did he have to bring his diseased heart to MY city?
Now I won’t be able to go downtown for days, lest I should mis-step and find myself in a pile of Phelps Shit.
Phred has been to San Francisco. I remember when Randy Shilts, journalist and author, died and Fred talked about picketing his funeral. They came all the way from Kansas and stayed for less than a minute. I recorded the news videos from ABC, NBC, CBS, and CNN. They tried to stand across the street from tne church(with a line of police protection in front of them mind you). Some of the Shilts supporters must have had military experience, because they started lobbing eggs and such over the heads of the grinning cops that arced downward onto to heads of the picketers.
The best clip, from CNN, showed a speaker inside the church. “The good reverend said he’d come here to shadow us like some sort of ugly dog. That’s just the sort of statement I’d expect from a son of a bitch.”
Oh well, I guess I’m used to him. I live in Topeka, Kansas, his home base, and see him all the time. He picket my church. Back when this all started I did a lot of counter picketing with different groups. I remember folks asking me "ARen’t you afraid people will think you are gay?(I’m a straight female) One of my favorite pictures from those days is that of Bishop William Smalley, of the Episcopal Diocese of Kansas, holding a witnessing sign at St.David’s Episcopal Church here in Topeka. A windy day, we really had to brace ourselves, looks very symbolic. I was glad the bishop showed active support for us when witnessing to the true meaning of the Gospel, not Fred’s perverted ideas.
Topeka would have to be first in line. Their family “compound” is expanding. I drove by there about an hour ago and I noticed a new house is being put up at the corner of their block. The privacy fence is being extended to take it in.
Wow. I think more people should get pies thrown at them.
Then again, Phelps is one of those guys I wouldn’t much regret shooting in the head. Smug, hateful, disgusting pervert. Shudder. If I saw the man face to face, I don’t think I’d be able to resist slugging him.
(Not pervert as in sexual weirdo, mind, though I don’t know what he gets up to in his bedroom. But tell me something about the wanker’s not perverse.)
