Dolly Parton, who is outspokenly in support of gay-rights, donated one of her songs to the newest HRC fund-raising CD, Love Rocks. The song, Sugar Hill was originally released on her Halos and Horns album from 2002. The backup band on that album was The Kingdom Heirs, who are Steve French, Arthur Rice, David Sutton and Eric Bennett. Eric Bennett was involved in the Kirk Talley Restoration Team which was supposed to cure gospel singer Kirk Talley from being homosexual. Steve French and Kirk were long-time friends; but it appears their friendship has become rocky since Kirk was outed.
Kirk, the poor deluded fool, has this to say about the “cure”
I love the delicious irony that fundamentalist evangelicals are singing backup on the HRC album and helping raise money for gay civil rights.
Is there really much objective difference between these Ex-Gay folks and, say, Saint Francesca Bussa de Ponziani, who deliberately mutilated her own genitals by scalding them with boiling pork fat, so that she wouldn’t inadvertently enjoy (obviously hetero)sexual relations with her husband? OK, maybe physical self-harm is more extreme, but the self-hate and denial seems rooted in the same kind of mania.
I scald my own genitals with boiling pork fat every day just for the hell of it. In fact, I find I can’t even leave the apartment in the morning without a quick porcine boost. Dunno why those wacky Catholics are hogging the action for themselves.
