excel hyperlink problem

I have a spreadsheet with hyperlinks which has been copied from another computer.

The hyperlinks work when clicked on the original computer, but do not on mine.

An error message pops up that states: “no program is registered to open file” or something like that.

I’m even more confused because I’m posting this from home and just tried the hyperlink (to get the exact error message) from the file that I copied to a flashdrive and it worked!

But the hyperlinks in this same file don’t work on my office computer.

I have the same OS (XP) and Excel version (2003 professional) on both computers. In fact, they were both loaded from the same disks.

Googling hasn’t been of much help. It says lack of memory might be the problem but my office computer is a lot more capable than my home PC.

The only real differences might be in updates installed.

Any ideas how to fix this?

Does your office computer have a default browser selected? Can it open hyperlinks in other spreadsheets or other programs?

**“no program is registered to open file” ** could be referring to a program that is launched when the link is clicked. So you could have some program that is on the original computer and on your home computer, but is not on your office computer. What program is used when the hyperlink works? Is the link just some html or does it have another extension like pdf or ppt? Make sure that your office computer has all the current Windows updates by going here, but I don’t think that’s your problem.

The hyperlinks are URLs that should open in Netscape 7.2 (my default browser).

This is the default browser for all three computers that I’ve opened this file on.

I’m back in my office now and the hyperlinks in the file on my flash drive don’t work and they did when I posted last night at home, so something is screwed up with Excel on my office computer and not the file.
