Excercising question.

So I just started going to the gym a few weeks ago, and I was wondering how many times a person is supposed to excercise in a week and for how long? Not someone whos training for a marathon. Just for an average person. I’ve heard three days a week or is that a myth?

I think the general idea that applies here is “the more the better” with two important exceptions;

  1. Don’t become obsessed with exercise and spend several hours a day at it

  2. If you are lifting weights in order to increase muscle mass, allow 2-3 rest of the muscles you used in lifting. So you could follow a regime like:

day 1 chest and arm exercises
day 2 abdominal exercises
day 3 leg exercises
day 4 chest and arm exercises

Also, for cardio vascular benefit try to maintain an eleated heart rate for at least 30 minutes.

That’s hard to say without knowing you. What shape are you in? What kind of exercise? How intense of an exercise is it? These are all variables that determine what you should be doing.

Any good gym will have personal trainers or at least and educated staff that might be able to offer suggestions, but you really shoud see your doctor. Only h (s)he will be able to determine what is right for you.
