Excuse me while I weep for my Yellow Jackets

We do better in Baseball than in Basketball, generally. We’ve been to the College World Series a couple times recently, and won it all in 1990.

Basketball did really well under Tubby Smith & Harrick, though the latter’s son felt that our players needn’t take a respectable final exam (among other things).

We have faired quite well vs. Tech in both sports.

Additionally, as a Tech fan, you would do well to familiarize yourself with NCAA baseball. GT is a traditional powerhouse, though they do have the dubious honor of being the best team to never win a World Series.

Nomar Garciaparra played for the jackets, among others.

Lamenting? Lamenting?

BANGS HEAD AGAINST THE SIDE OF MY RED & BLACK TAILGATING RV

deep breath

Ok, hopefully The Swan cleared things up for me, but I want to be sure. So here’s my previous post:

The joke is that GEORGIA (not Georgia Tech) won the ACC.

So here’s how the joke works — I said GEORGIA sucked it up in-conference. Let’s face it - we did. We lost to Kentucky. We lost to Vandy. We lost to Tennessee. We lost to Florida. We tried our best to end up at the bottom of the SEC East.

The joke was that even though we (UGA) played so badly in-conference, we still won the ACC by beating the Jackets. It’s just a joke - we didn’t win the ACC. We just beat the potential champions.

So that was the joke. I’m not a Jackets fan, JohnT - Dawg through and through. No lamenting the sorry state of the ACC this year necessary.

Re: baseball and basketball, The Swan nailed it. I really wish that Georgia could field a basketball team to match our football team. Other places have done it (see Ohio State; see Texas; see Florida). We just can’t seem to get it together (and @*#$ Jim Harrick didn’t help matters any). I completely understand why Tubby went on to the Kentucky job, but I wish he would have stayed around and tried to build a basketball power at Georgia.

That said, Georgia does have a basketball power in Women’s. Coach Landers is a pretty tough coach, and every year he seems to keep them in the top 10. UGA also has several other sports where we’re good year-in-year-out: Gymnastics (womens), Swimming (womens), Tennis (mens).

As for Tech - they’ve had a pretty good basketball team for the past couple of years.

Would you guys like Tubby back? After the way we played in Maui, I’m not sure he’d be wise to undertake remodeling work on his house here in Lexington.

Hell yes, we’d like him back. He might not be able to sustain the year-to-year complete and total domination that Wildcat fans would like, but he’d be a stepup for us. And I don’t mean that as a knock on Dennis Felton — I think he’s doing an admirable job righting the ship in the post-Harrick era. But I’d take Tubby back in a heartbeat.

What he said.
