Absolutely! When I compare Reporting Unit Seven’s coverage of the Martian revolt to the drivel we have to put up with today, it drives me to tears.
Hey, they don’t call it the Red Planet for nothing: damn place was rife with Cgubnan agents.
Ruth, my dear, I hope I’m not as brain dead as you in 16 years. Happily, my father in law is 20 years older than you, with a lot more sense.
It’s also nice if you responded to posts - you didn’t in GD either.
Here’s to Ruth Skidmore, SDMB’s oldest troll.
Excellent post, Revtim. Thanks for fighting ignorance.
My pleasure bluethree. It’s a peeve of mine that so many people like the OP were so successfully brainwashed into thinking the ACLU is trying to eliminate religion or something.
We need to be nice to Ruth - if we lose her we’ll never get to enjoy dialogue like this again.
Well, whaddya know - a stream of consciousness without the critical ingredient.
It’s Dr. Bronner’s weird, nationalistic twin!
But, ironically, undiluted.
Well, Hi Ruth. You certainly have a great deal to say, but, you know, posting it all in one fell swoop is rather overwhelming. Can I ask you what drew you to this site? It’s a very intelligent one, with plenty of people who are willing to listen to many points of view, and will offer good thoughtful response.
This post is, as I said, overwhelming in scope. Best for you to relax a little, and post particular questions/observations in more digestible form. Take time to browse the forums and read for the tone here; there is much to offer for people of all persuasions. Just trying to help you out, Hon. A yammer on like this post is too much too soon. I hope you can find your place here beyond this start.
FYI, here’s Cecil’s article about lampshades being made from holocaust victim’s skin:
http://www.straightdope.com/columns/040604.html
his conclusion:
Ruth Skidmore, why do you think “young people” wouldn’t “accept the fact that someone can hate another person to that extent simply because of their religious beliefs”? That type of hate is in the news practically every day.
This pretty much refutes the main point of the OP, because it didn’t happen, did it?. The prediction by the ideological extremist of eventual conquest of the US proved extremely unrealistic. Likewise, Muslims can launch terrorist attacks, but they cannot invade and conquer us.
Here’s what I think the US should have done in response to 9/11:

Yeah, but it’s only zmuslim on Eslam violence - although whoulda thunk humble ESL teachers would have their own sect these days?
No.
Jesus Christ, Lissa, you actually read that enough to respond to it. It made my brain hurt just scrolling down past it. I admire your stamina, if nothing else.
This is why our parents warned us not to play in her yard…
I got the perfect response for stuff like the OP from the show “Corner Gas” - I just used it on a different board, as a matter of fact.
Here it is-
“I see. And have you tried making sense?”
Although, in all fairness, she might be making lots of sense, but the paragraphs were too dense to hack my way through, and I did not read much past the first sentence when it became clear that I was going to have to work much harder than I am inclined for my entertainment. Hey, I’ve got an idea - let’s all post 15 inches of stream-of-consciousness drivel that just falls out of our brains! Mods, whaddya say?
My brain feels like someone stuck it in the microwave for too long, reading that. The stupidity, it’s contagious… someone, anyone, help…
Ruth, I graduated from high school in 1961 and was admitted to a college that has high admission standards. Yet I had never heard of the Holocaust until I was out of high school. I think students are better informed now about the Nazi atrocities than many children born during the war years.
What they may be unaware of is that genocide has happened again and is continuing to happen right now – today. It happened in the killing fields of Cambodia and it is happening in Darfur.
And not everyone in our country has money in their pockets. I know of an area the size of Connecticut that has 80% unemployment! How could this happen and a good American like you not know about it? I have described the situation on the Pine Ridge Reservation. Would you like to join some other Americans in knitting the children there some mittens and hats so that they can keep warm this winter? It seems like a Christian and patriotic thing to do.
I love your sense of history and tradition. Merry Christmas.
And welcome!
**Revtim ** said “The ACLU of Michigan (2004) represented Abby Moler, a student at Sterling Stevenson High School, whose yearbook entry, a Bible verse, was deleted because of its religious content. A settlement was reached under which the school placed a sticker with Moler’s original entry in the yearbooks and agreed not to censor students’ yearbook entries based on their religious or political viewpoints in the future.
