Exile - Will this really be of any help?

If we exile Arafat from Israel, what’s going to prevent him from bringing terror to Israel and possibly other countries from somewhere else?

Um, “nothing”?

Exile, like other forms of social ostracism, would only work if everybody else agreed not to talk to him, ever again.

Which they won’t, starting with the Big Dog.

So.

Then there’s the issue of his living in exile in someplace like Paris or Washington D.C. and having unlimited access to the Western talk show circuit. Can you picture him with Barbara Walters? The profile in Parade magazine? The guest appearance on Oprah? Jerry Springer?

…he could release a “World Peace” CD with U2

No, please, leave him in Ramallah, we’ll all be much better off…

…But [Colin] Powell said Tuesday on CNN it doesn’t matter whether Arafat is in Ramallah or in exile.

Arafat “still has a legitimate role within the Palestinian movement” and it is “best to deal with him in that role” rather than designating him as a terrorist, Powell said.

“He is recognized – whether we approve of it or not – as the leader of the Palestinian people, and he will be the leader of the Palestinian people whether he is sitting in Ramallah or whether he is sitting in some exile location elsewhere, in the Middle East or somewhere in Europe. He will still have that role.”

And so bin Laden has a legitimate role within the al-Qaida movement?

Bush has said terrorism is unacceptable and those who harbor terrorists are terrorists, too. No cause can redeem the terrorist monsters who target and celebrate the death of women and children. Bush promised to fight terrorism wherever it is and to bring justice to them “dead or alive.” Now he demands that Israel protect the life of the PA Osama, Arafat. He calls military counterattacks “not helpful.” The UN resolution, approved by the US, urges Israel to stop defending itself against terrorists.

If you cannot condemn without reservation the terrorism by the PA in Israel, then you cannot condemn 9/11. If you say, “Well, Israel has so much more in the way of munitions, tanks, and planes, how is the PA going to fight back?” then you have justified the decision of al-Qaida to use passenger jets against civilian targets.

Don’t be fooled with the statements that Arafat cannot control the terrorist elements in the PA. If he did not actually authorize the shipment of 50 tons of munitions, he had full knowledge of it. An article in today’s paper states that the Israeli army found a letter in Arafat’s compound detailing costs incurred by the Al-Aqsa (a terrorist group), a militia linked to Arafat’s Fatah movement. It was found in the office of Fuad Shobaki, chief financial officer for the PA. The letter was shown to journalists and it asked for $17,000 to buy ammunition for automatic rifles.
