As we slink westward, you’ll notice that George W. Bush’s popular vote majority is shrinking. We’ll see how that pans out once the Western states start reporting in.
So Kerry’s bagged California. Are we looking at a repetition of the candidate with the most popular votes actually losing the election?
As of 11:12 Eastern Time Yahoo is showing:
Candidate States Electoral Votes Popular Vote
Bush 24 210 51%
Kerry 14 199 48%
Maybe I’m wrong, but I think it’s starting to look like a Bush landslide.
I’ll check it out in the morning.
Rhode Island seems to be holding out.

Well, John Kerry lost this election big time.
I’m remembering 1984. Regan vs. Mondale. If I recall correctly, Regan took 49 states out of 50. That’s loosing an election bigtime. John Kerry still had a chance until about an hour and a half ago… almost 1 AM EST with well over 200 votes.
According to both the BBC and CNN Bush is on 254 electoral votes, to Kerry’s 252. It still doesn’t look brilliant though.
CBS is still showing Wisconsin as contested, giving Kerry an about 14,000 vote lead.
Under the CBS scenario, Bush could lose Ohio and win Iowa, Wisconsin, and New Mexico and win the election.
