I may have missed this, but is your brother still married to her?

As far as I know Miss Vicky is still married to my brother. I haven’t seen/talked to/heard from either of them for close to 20 years. At one point she did want to leave him, about 10 years after they were married, and my family apparently completely supported her. Can’t supply any more than that, I’m afraid, as I cannot stand the pair of them (big-arsed wedding is nothing compared to the bullying, insurance fraud and ID theft).

You want some awkward wedding stories? My two brothers have three weddings but only two wives between them.*

I missed out on the whole weddings thing when I was in my 20s, so I didn’t have to go through any of the huge extravaganzas, and now that I’m older, huge weddings seem silly to me. A lot of them seem to be fueled by a keeping-up-with-the-Joneses mentality where if your one friend does x, then you must do x+1, and the quirkier x is, the more likely it seems to catch on. For example, if your friend wears flip-flops at her wedding, then your bridesmaids must all wear flip-flops with their dresses, and your flip-flops have to have more sparklies and bows and crap on them. If your friend has neon glow necklaces as guest favors, you must do the entire damn Color Run at your wedding. It’s stupid and petty.

My cousin usually brings flip-flops to receptions, so she doesn’t have to dance in her dress shoes. Does that count?

Close, but not quite, although I saw one picture just now of a basketful of flip-flops as guest favors so they can be more comfortable. (Besides, I’ve been known to do that myself.) I’m talking about crap like this, the blingier, the better. And, of course, custom-made bridesmaids’ flip-flops.

Like I said, it just seems that goofy stuff is starting to win out over more staid, traditional stuff.

Last wedding I was in, the guest favors were plain espadrilles, your choice of red or white. I wish I had the video of the First Dance, that sure wasn’t the Blue Danube
