Explain the new Canadian hockey deal to me

As a frequent viewer of “Hockey Night in Canada” (the CBC is available on cable in the Puget Sound area), the the new Canadian TV deal for hockey has me very confused. Apparently, the CBC will continue to air hockey–but the production will be done by another company, the CBC won’t get paid for it, and they may not air on Saturday. Why on earth would any broadcaster agree to this deal, and how are they going to make any money on it? And is there any simple breakdown of the deal and how many games will air and where?

As of this time, it defies explanation.
