Watching the Olympics last night, I noticed that some of the skiers and snowboarders had these peculiar goggles, with some kind of port beneath the lens. You can see an example here, if you look at slide three of the slideshow. Can someone explain what these ports are?
They move air through the goggles to help prevent fogging.
From Oakley’s website
Those would be the “surge ports.”
Buy a pair for only $165 and take a chance on the lottery!
Fine for snowboarders!
Thanks, St. Urho. I thought ski goggles avoided fogging by having a two-layer lens, with the layers separated by a vacuum. This sounds like a new wrinkle, which makes me wonder if fogging is still a problem with the older-style goggles.
They do aviod fogging by having double pained windows. But all gogles I have seen also have some way for air to circulate. And if you can give these vents a cool extreme name then so much the better.
