Explain this optical illusion to me please.

I being completely honest when I say that the first time I saw one of those “loud noise scare pictures” I didn’t remotely jump. In fact, I sort of just thought, “uuhh, okay, that was stupid”.

Nah, when people hold their hands up to me, there’s rarely more than one finger showing.

Wow, I left town for a couple of days and this thread really took off.

I think that the optical illusion website I got this from just made a mistake since it is the only place refering to 7 horses. Bev Doolittle actually did many “pinto” paintings so maybe they screwed up. I never saw blob horses in the rocks or necks of the other horses. I still see 5 horses, one being a colt or filly. And I see one alien skull. Or maybe the missing link skull.

Also, I see five cows in the other clever print but the skull has morphed back into a rock. Found 11 or 12 faces depending on how open my mind is. Never found Waldo in any of the pictures and never saw any dogs either. Just an impression of my 3 year old son in the middle of a tantrum.

Thanks guys for backing me up on this one. I thought I was going crazy not seeing 2 of the horses. I have found a really interesting artist though. I have never seen Bev’s work before and I love it.

What about that preliminary sketch that showed the 7 horses?
Can we get a scan of that somehow?

I found 12 faces…13 if I really belive…

BUT I ONLY SEE 5 MUGGA-FUGGA HORSES!!!

the picture of the cows seems strangely alike to that of the horses - with different colors

hmmm…

Actually, in the cow picture I can see a horse or a sixth cow. Unfortunately it doesn’t translate over to the Pinto picture.

I’m in the “5 horses” league, myself. That middle rock looks like a horse’s head, kind of – but considering how realistic the five horses that can be seen have been portrayed, I find it hard to believe the mysterious “two” would be so contorted as to be invisible.

I found a sixth that seems, to me at least, to be much more convincing than the “horse’s head” in the center rock above the other horses. It’s still a bit iffy, but takes less imagination to see it.

Look closely in the bottom left corner. Right below where the rock meets the snow is the top of what might be a horse’s head, facing towards the right. There’s even a neck attached, but where it would normally continue into the horse’s body, it gets a bit blurry. But why the dang thing is squinting, I’ll never know.

I’ve not been able to find a sketch online. My Doolittle book is buried in a box somewheres. I’m going to have a look for the book and if I find it will take a photo of the sketch (or at least post the solution).

As mentioned, she has done several pinto paintings. This is the one that graces the front of the book I have.

Apologies for not having responded sooner - didn’t subscribe to the thread when I posted.

Back when (if) I can find the book.

DMC…
I think I see it too… The whole bottom part is the horse’s head sort of on an angle facing towards us to the right. I can’t see the nose part, but it’s the horse’s head above the nose…
But I can only see it if I squint and get my vision out of focus. Then the horse head pulls out of the rocks… slightly…

Okay. I found my book, gave it a good dusting and…

Take back what I said about their being 7 horses. I remembered incorrectly.

The preliminary sketch actually contians more than 7 (10 if you’re curious), but the final product appears to contain only 5 real horses.

If you squint your eyes and turn the photo you can make out a few more horse-like shapes, but no further real ones (that I can see from the book).

My apologies.

Sommat interesting from the book, though:

Just thought I’d share.

Peace to everyone

It would seem there are only five . From this page, which is the home page of the artist who did the Holstein parody :

Phew, I see all seven. Bright as day, if you look hard enough. Wow, what a relief.

Wait, wait, no I don’t. I just wanted to seem like a big man is all. I’m sorry. (Walks off in shame)
