Why did you choose your user name? I chose New Girl because that’s what my friends and everyone else have called me for two years since I moved here. I think I can explain some other people’s, like Inigo Montoya and Czarcasm, but some of them have me truly at a loss. Especially you, Even Sven. So 'fess up.
Mine is a reference to the book Being There by Jerzy Kocinski. It was made into a decent movie, too. Chance the Gardener accomplishes great things but doesn’t seem to be entirely aware of them.
This topic has been done.
That’s like saying a zit thread has been done before.
We can always use another username thread.
I’m from Navarra, was away from home. The double r tends to cause asthma attacks in foreigners trying to pronounce it (and earaches to me), so I chopped it off.
My username used to be Sir Blah. Now it’s Not.
It’s a reference to the whole idea of being an “armchair revolutionary,” i.e. someone with beliefs and views who doesn’t really do anything pro-active to accomplish anything. Which, you know, is basically right. Although that’s also true for like 99% of the political commentators on the Internet.
I am very large, and almost always wear predominantly yellow clothes.
Also, I smell like diesel exhaust.
And I beep when I back up.
And I wear black shoes, 6 of them at a time.
Oh, man I’m killing me here!!!
Wherever You Go, There You Are. While it is a line from Buckaroo Bonzai, it’s something I keep finding to be true. Every time I think I am experiencing Big Life Changes, I realize that I am still me with my failings and strengths and weirdnesses.
Mr Bus Guy’s responses are killing me, too.
**Anaamika ** means the Girl With No Name. I thought it was appropriate for a message board. Since I’ve been using it, I’ve found an unexpected side effect. It’s unusual enough to stand out a little, but common enough that a Google search doesn’t bring up me anywhere near the first five pages. Maybe more, but I stopped searching.
My story from a previous thread:
Colibri is Spanish for hummingbird. I did my thesis work on hummingbirds in Panama.
Because instead sounds plumb ridiculous.
Actually, lieu is just a residual from another board. You could change them at will there and I was always playing around with different ones but got comments on in lieu of read which was shortened to lieu and mindlessly chose it for use here, never knowing I’d be sticking around. Now, after several years, it seems kinda silly to change so I’m stuck with it.
I wish it meant something deep but actually I’m significantly shallower than most people realize.
Say, you ought to ask some of the comic book thread Dopers what my name means.
Mine is just a play on my actual name, and has nothing to do with actually being new to the boards (well, I was at one time. I don’t think I’d actually be considered new any longer). And the Mc reflects my Irish heritage.
sigh I hate my username. I was only planning on sticking around for my freebie period, so I thought it wouldn’t matter.
I picked it because I was arguing with the computer over UserNames. You know how it goes:
username: Rhiannon (my username just about everywhere else)
Computer: No. Someone else has that. You can’t have it, you unimaginative moron.
username: Rhiannon2
Computer: No. Someone else has that. You can’t have it, you unimaginative moron.

username:Come on, give me a damn name already
Computer: No. Someone else has that. You can’t have it, you unimaginative moron.
username: Why Not?
And here we are.
When Radiohead’s OK Computer came out, I used to listen to the CD several times a week. The first song on the album, Airbag, always mesmerized me. I could never understand what Thom Yorke was saying after “In the next world war…”. I finally looked up the lyrics, and the term stayed with me in my head for years. I like it because its alliterative (JJ), symmetric (10 letters in each word, including one double letter in each) and finally, the word juggernaut comes from my Indian and Hindu heritage.
I’ve basically taken ownership of the song (figuratively, of course). On other websites, I’m known as “Airbag” and “Interstellarburst” (also from the song).
Crotalus is the name of the genus which includes most rattlesnakes. I’ve always liked rattlesnakes.
I’m an (apparently) very serious person who willl actually admit to singing in public. Also, I liked the fact that my user name is somewhat oxymoronic.
My name is the name of the starship in the sf novel I have written ( and have been finishing for way too long.) It has nothing to do with Star Trek. The ship got its name just after ST:TOS went off the air.
I said way too long.
