My name is a combination of my two breeds of dogs I own-
PAP illons and Gordon SETT ers.
My username is very rather boring and unimaginative. It’s my initials followed by the year in which I was born.
My name is what Buckwheat sounds like singing “Looking for Love in all the Wrong Places”, as channeled through Eddie Murphy. I was originally gonna use Lurkin’ for Love.
When we first got connected to the 'net, about twelve or so years ago, our ISP gave me my first email addy. It was my first name, followed by my last initial (all in lower case) followed by @whateverISP.net. After that, everywhere I went on the 'net, I used my first name, last initial as my user name. This was the first message board I ever joined (why, yes, I am old; and a loser. Why do you ask?). It never even occurred to my feeble mind that people would read it as nori new until they started referring to me in posts as “nori”. Now, when I go to Dope Fests, and we introduce ourselves, I pronounce my name nori new so as not to confuse people.
I guess while I’m here, I’ll answer for my middle daughter, who is fourteen, and also a Doper. Her username is EtherealFreakOfPinkness. She adopted this name for several reasons. For one, her real name means “ethereal beauty”; also, we decided years ago she’s a freak (don’t look at me like that. She’s proud of the fact). And pink is her favorite color, so much so that the 3-year-old she babysits has begun calling her “Pink Girl”. So we put all of these things together and came up with her username.
Let’s just say the description is eerily accurate and leave it at that, shall we?
My first choice was Dewey Finn, (Jack Black’s character in School of Rock) but that was taken.
Mayo is my last name. In a high school physics class that was beneath me (well it was!), I never said a word. And when I finally said something, the teacher was surprised and exclaimed, “Mayo Speaks!” I thought it was apt, and so here we are. On other boards, I just use my whole name “davidmayo”. But I needed something more for here.
I’m from EURO pe, living in MD and last time I checked still a GUY
Rather boring, but Antinor is (one of) my characters in an MMORG and I was also using it for my IM name but it wanted something more so I added the 01. Now I use that name as my ID for almost everything that needs one.
Well Crotalus suggested it in my vote for my new user name thread.
What it basically means is that it is an old joke that everyone in New Jersey lives near a highway exit. When you meet someone from Jersey, you tease them by saying What Exit do you live by?
When I went to boot camp in Great Lakes, I had never heard the joke before and when someone asked it being “Clever”, I answered “right between 109 and 114 on the Garden State Parkway, do you know the area?” They were surprised by the answer and someone explained the joke to me. So when **Crotalus ** suggested it, I added it to my list of possible names.
The voting worked out to keeping my old name with the capitalization changed beating What Exit? by a small margin, I submitted my request as “JRFranchi or What Exit? if they cannot for any reason make the first change.” to **TubaDiva ** and for whatever reason **TubaDiva ** went with the second choice for which I am grateful. I really like the new user name.
Keep this up and we’ll stand in line to help you.
Jim {Oh, to keep the Tolkien Reference, I think Elendil’s Heir Suggested I put something in my Location and I did}
Rhythmdvl = Rhythm Devil = Percussive Eargasms
[sup](Hi Stagger Lee, Dire Wolf, Stella, etc…)[/sup]
I gotta say, this cracked me up. FWIW, I love your username.
My user name comes from my first “real” job where I trained dolphins, seals and killer whales at a local marine park. Since I didn’t mind getting in the water to do the trickier stunts etc. I got the nickname “dolphinboy” and it kinda stuck. I’ve always loved the water so it seemed natural for me at the time.
It was supposed to be MrSmith537 but I typoed the “r”. The name itself is not significant other than being a very generic sounding internet name. My real name is not Smith and doesn’t have an M anywhere in it.
Someday I’ll think of one that’s more clever.
Favorite movie. (Did I really have to explain that? Probably not. )
I play bagpipes and live north of 49.
My last name is Nottingham, and people often shorten that to Nott.
JFK, in his inaugural speech, said, “Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country.”
These came together in a silly joke that ends with a grocery stockboy telling me, “My history teacher said I should ask you what my country can do for me.” The joke persisted, and it’s been my username for a long time.
I used to be Harimad-sol, which is from The Blue Sword by Robin McKinley. People often mistook me for others or just couldn’t spell the darn name. I am a very minor Tolkien geek, and thought I’d like a name from one of his books. I looked and looked, said many of them out loud, and couldn’t settle on one. Finally, I looked in an appendix in the back of my copy of The Return of the King which dealt with the Numenoreans. The second queen of Numenor was Tar-Telperien (with some diacritical marks I omitted). The “Tar” bit just indicates that she was queen, and I didn’t care much for it. There you have it.
Luna is my nickname. I’m not spanish and I don’t speak it, but I love the moon, so Luna it was.
I added the V for my last name because Luna was already taken.
It’s a champagne I like.

My real name is Anastasia. My husband, while wooing me, used to call me his star, his Anastasaeon. It sounded better to me than his flower, his Anastasalilly.
