Explain your user name

mrald = emerald

I am green, in some alternate universe

Mine too! And I’m boring and unimaginative, too!

I work at a Girl Scout camp where my nickname is Mosquito. Every counselor and counselor in training (CIT) has a nickname there. The foreigners who work at my camp, call mosquitoes “mossies”. When I was a CIT, my counselor, from England, would call me Miss Mossie.

FWIW, I almost went with Skeet. Most of the American’s at my camp shorten my nickname to Skeet (is a shortened nickname a nicknickname?). I didn’t think it would be appropriate to have a username that’s slang for male ejaculatory fluid though. So, here I am: MissMossie.

You could’ve been MissSkeet though, which would’ve given you a whole southwest bar-b-q vibe.

I was feeling lazy the night I signed up and chose a book at random off of the shelf and took its main character’s name. The book was The Man Who Never Missed.

It’s a user name I took with me from a Hawaiian political website.

William Quinn was the last appointed and the first elected Governor of Hawaii.

I could just say read the other thread but what the hell.

I am not named for the director or the fish.

When thinking up a name many years ago when I got my first screen name I was having difficulty finding one that fit. At the time I was still in Army aviation. I had been a full time navigator/scout in OH-58 helicopters. When I left active duty and joined the National Guard my unit had OH-6 helicopters. The official name for the OH-6 is the Cayuse but they have always been known as the loach (from light observation helicopter). I have been away from aviation for a long while and they retired those aircraft years ago but I still have the name. I use it in one form or another in the few sites I have a name. Every once and a while I think about changing it but I haven’t gotten around to it yet.

But you have the added advantage of being much older.

My first and last names, shortened to 8 characters total (appropriate for use in some bygone systems) with a minimal loss in phonemes.

Whoops! 10 characters, I meant. 8 might be sctndrsn.

Tribal name. Cate=Red, Ayo= Hawk

I like to see the wheels turn round 'n round, faster 'n faster!

When I was younger I strongly resembled Winnie Cooper on the Wonder Years, just with blonde hair. Many people called me “Winnie”, so it stuck and now it’s my preferred username in various forms.

Well done.

I’m enipla. Alpine backwards. I live at altitude and my dear dogs name was Alpine. Alpine was taken.

It’s a line from an older Jimmy Eat World song, off their album Clarity. I’ve always had trouble thinking of clever usernames and once I picked this for AIM years ago, it stuck. I don’t like it much, but I don’t care too much either.

I like ducks.
I am male.
I am deeply in debt for a doctorate in an incredibly unmarketable field (folklore).

I meant it to be a kind of whimsical name, but from some of the reactions to my posts I think it comes across as kind of stuffy and pretentious.

Sallah: Please, what does it always mean, this… this “Junior”?
Professor Henry Jones: That’s his name.
[points to himself]
Professor Henry Jones: Henry Jones…
[points to Indy]
Professor Henry Jones: … Junior.
Indiana Jones: I like “Indiana.”
Professor Henry Jones: We named the dog Indiana.
Marcus Brody: May we go home now, please?
Sallah: The dog? You are named after the dog?
Indiana Jones: I’ve got a lot of fond memories of that dog.

I misheard and misremembered the character name “Satoshi” from an episode of The Critic.
“Who Has Disturbed My Thousand Year Sleep?”

What does that have to do with making your ears sping?

:stuck_out_tongue:

mine is the name of a song by strange punk rock group Atom and his Package
