I’m in Siam, present-day Thailand. Real name not Sam, but there’s already a Bangkok Bob over here, and Siam Sam sounds better than Thailand Ted.

I started using the nick “Aleq” way back in the BBS days–early ‘90s. Aleq is an elision of my SCA name, which made sense at the time because a lot of the BBS’ I frequented were run by SCAdian friends. I added the “smart” bit on account of constantly being told “Don’t be such a–!”

I’ve been told it fits me really well… :stuck_out_tongue:

I joined as Lavender Blue and immediately learned there was a lavenderblue already. Since I was a guest and couldn’t do any searches, it was a little hard to come up with things that weren’t taken. The main character in the novel I was writing at the time was named Falcon, and nobody had used Lavender Falcon, so I changed to that.

I don’t really like the name, but I also don’t really care enough to ask to change it again.

Keep it! It is distinctive and has a certain ring to it.

From one fool to another, salud.

Me, it’s several meanings all rolled into one (like nested Russian dolls), primarily concerned with the Journey Along the Precipice of Life, the Soul in Search of Experience, and other such nonsense. And it has something to do with the animal named in the previous post (durn synchronicity). Also see: Incal.

It’s a not-really-serious dig at my kids for not giving me grandchildren. “You won’t breed for me? After all I’ve done for you! Harumphf”.

Plus, I think it sounds friendly and non-threatening.

I’m a prof and haunt the hallowed halls of the Ivory Tower.

I don’t what I’ll call myself when I finally work up the courage to quit this job! (says the prof 2/3 through the semester-- arggg)

My 2 dog breeds… PAPillon and Gordon SETTers. PapSett!

Mine’s just a song…
I don’t hold on to the tail of your kite…

There are so many new folks, it’s good to have another thread like this.

When I was a kid, I had a talking Casper the Friendly Ghost doll (with a pull string, ala Chatty Kathy). One of the phrases it was supposed to speak was “I’M a FRIENDLY ghost,” but it was garbled, and it sounded to my sisters and me like “I’M a FRECKA free.”

An offhand remark from the late, great Mitch Hedberg.

My favorite place and shoes are named ‘Chaco’ as is The World’s Most Adorable Dog.

I’m a guy.

I bought a house just before I joined and paid 21 score thousand for it.
I prefer to be obtuse and let you guys think that: I’m a big stoner and I obsess over Hitler’s birthday, Waco Texas and the Columbine Massacre.

I come from a long line of biciles I am 59

Have you tried to interbreed them?

Hi John! Next time we have a fool reunion, you’ll have to join me and foolsguinea. :stuck_out_tongue:

That’s a neat story. I had a similar experience with a username I’ve had elsewhere… the Other Half and I were driving somewhere during a hot air balloon race. He was the first to notice one off in the distance and commented, “See the balloon.” I was staring in a different direction and misunderstook what he said for “suitable wound.” So, some people call me suitably*wounded. And I really think it’s cool, but it’s just not me all the time, like I’d want for a nick to be.

I like opals. I like cats. It was well over 10 years ago when I came up with it and now I’m used to it, so it’s who I am. There is a nifty graphic in the right side of the top navigation banner on my website of what an opal cat might look like.

My fiancé has me in his cell phone as “OpalCat” and plenty of people call me Opal in real life at this point.

I’m an accountant and I have a large library. QED

Old joke about New Jersey Residents. In joke theory everyone in NJ lives near a highway exit. Thus the question “What Exit?”

It was the winner* in a renaming contest on the dope and suggested by Crotalus.

  • Boring story, but technically it came in second.

Snipe is another name for a member of the black gang on a ship. Graduated in the Class of 1970 Engineering.
