Explosions in Kabul. Is it Bin Laden trying to take power?

The US denies it has anything to do with these explosions. I tend to believe them because we, as yet, have no evidence as to who carried out this action.

Earlier today the Rebel leader (opposing the Taliban) in Afghanistan was shot.

Now we have explosions in Kabul.

Why are all these things happening at the same time? I dont believe in coincidence.

One explanation that has occurred to me is that Bin Laden is attempting a coup over the Taliban possibly supported by Iraq, Iran or Libya.

The idea would be to set up some kind of hostile anti-US Islamic state.

Ive not heard anyone official mention this possibility yet - maybe it hasn’t occurred to them.

Although the Taliban have been sheltering Bin Laden, they are not over-enthusiastic about doing this.

Am I way off with this or does it seem a reasonable hypothesis?

Another possibility is that the Rebels are staging a revolt in retaliation for the shooting of their leader.

But still, too many coincidences - its all happening at once.

ps My heart and sympathies go out to the people of the US today.

Here in the UK we have had to maintain constant vigilence in case of terrorist attacks for a number of years. You get used to it, it aint so bad. You just need to be alert to things like unattended packages on subway trains or on the street.

One of the big players in Afganistan, Massod, was killed yesterday. Seeing reports that it is likely his people retaliating.

CNN reported that the attacks are likely from the northern alliance, a group opposed to the ruling Taliban.

I can’t see Bin Laden being so stupid as to want to take control of the country. If he did that he would just be painting a huge bullseye on his chest. Most of the experts that have been on TV have stated that its unlikely to have a direct nation-state backing, simply because nation-states are too vulnerable to retaliation, as opposed to groups which have at least some ability to run and hide.

Im not suggesting Bin Laden would install himself as president. He would install a puppet government and he would be pulling the strings.

A lot of stuff has happened but if you think about it, it doesn’t make sense:

  1. Bin Laden attacks the US

  2. Afghan opposition leader gets killed (he wasn’t shot, he was killed in a bomb blast)

  3. Somebody is attacking Kabul

Why would the Afghan opposition leader get killed on the same day as the terrorist action?

There must be a connection.

We are being lead to believe that the Taliban probably killed him but see this BBC website (click on “opposition leader still alive?”).

Quote:

**"Mr Masood was giving an interview to two Arab journalists in Afghanistan’s northern Takhar province when a bomb went off. It had been concealed in a video camera.

Mr Moin said he had been told that the blast killed Mr Masood, the Afghan ambassador to India, and one of the reporters.

The Taleban has denied involvement in the attack."**

Another suicide bombing, sound familiar. And carried out by two Arabs.

And the Taleban deny it. If they’d done it they probably wouldn’t have any problem with admitting it - they’d be shouting it from the rooftops.

Another quote:

"Opposition official Sayed Najibullah Hashimi told Reuters news agency that the attack had been masterminded by Saudi dissident Osama bin Laden."

So if thats true, Bin Laden attacked targets in the US at the same time as blowing up Masood, the Afghan opposition leader. And now there are explosions in Kabul!

Maybe Bin Laden is now funding the rebel fighters and so they are now controlled by him.

He attacked the US in such a bad way hoping that the US would come in and remove the Taliban so that he could take power hidden behind the rebel forces.

Its all happening too coincidentally for my liking.

Something weird’s going on.

Just an idea.

Given the scenario that Bin Laden arranged for Masood to be killed (a rather large coup, as the man’s been holding out for years in his valley against the Taliban), I think it’s more likely Laden’s working directly with the powers that be. They would owe him big for such a job.

In any case, I really can’t even begin to believe their protests of his innocence.

Bin Laden reminds me a lot of Carlos the Jackal. Carlos ran out of countries to hide in, of course - eventually even Libya would not take him, and he was quickly betrayed when he became expendable. Hopefully we can repeat such a scenario.

Afghanistan is a near-perfect country to hole up in for him - its landlocked locale and mountainous terrain make it effectively impossible to invade, and the government has little incentive to extradite anything but fundamentalism.
