I got another example of this these past few days (like, after more 20 years of having budgies as pets, I needed to be reminded).
Our cat’s annual checkup will be this month, so Sunday we went out and purchased a carrier (last year, she was effectively a stray, and we put her in a box). My wife put a crate pad (foamed rubberoid material with a faux sheepskin cover) in the carrier, and we placed the carrier on the ground.
Sunday afternoon and evening, Patches (the cat) reacted in horror, sniffing at it from a distance of several feet, and running past it when she felt she had to pass it (it’s located between the door and the food dish).
Monday she sniffed all around the opening, and put her head in it to sniff the opening from the inside.
Last night, she went in it and slept there for four hours.
I hope she’ll still tolerate it after she goes to the vet in it.
