My eyeglasses are constantly slipping, and I’m constantly pushing them back up. The nose pads slip down my nose, and the temples ride up from behind my ears.
I have taken them back to where I bought them, and they tell me they aren’t adjusted properly. So I have them adjusted. Slight improvement, but they still slip.
A few years ago, I found and used a product called “Grippers”. They worked very well, but you can’t get them anymore. They can be seen here:
I have also tried the bands that go around your head, but they either fall off the glasses, are uncomfortable, or snag the back of my shirt and pull on the glasses. I have also tried the little rubber pads that stick onto the nose pads. They work somewhat, but they soon just slide off and leave a sticky, gummy mess behind.
If someone can find a source for “Grippers” or can suggest a way to keep my glasses up (yes, I tried Google, no luck) I would be grateful.
I suppose you could fake your own Grippers with a pair of small rubber bands The ones around a bunch of green onions are the right size, and come free with the veggies! Just hook one over each arm, and keep twisting and looping the band until it’s too tight to do any more.
Are your nosepads hard plastic? If so, consider going to your optician and getting them replaced with silicone nose pads. My glasses don’t slide as much since I had them changed, and I’m very happy with them. Apparently they go yellow after a few years, but they’re easy to replace and not too expensive.
Also, although you’ve had them adjusted often, maybe your glasses aren’t the right shape for your face. Some frames are made bigger than others, and some can be quite front-heavy.
First get frames with spring loaded temple pieces.
New silicone nose pads.
Wipe pad and nose with astringent every few hours.
Make your own grippers from Dr. Scholls Moleskin.
Lighter lenses and frames? Smaller ones, maybe? I always had a huge problem with my glasses sliding down; the last couple pairs have been polycarbonate lenses with frames about 2/3 the size of what I was wearing before, and I haven’t had much problem with them sliding down.
Years ago, my glasses had glass lenses. Everybody said the heavy glass was why they always slipped. The glasses I have now are plastic lenses, are very small and lightweight, the lightest I’ve ever owned. They still slip.
Lighweight plastic lens and silicone nosepads will stop most slipping unless you have very heavy frames. Hard plastic nosepieces should be replaced anyway. Silicone is much more comfy.
But today, I have completely different glasses, and they don’t slip, so I don’t use anything. Although I am glad that I have options if I need them. The Wedgees really do work.
