I want to thank all those, who voted for Obama, canvassed, phonebanked gotved and all those things i didnt even know existed a couple of years ago,
I’ve been cursing the fact that i could not do more to get this man elected, I am not an american citizen, i live in Argentina, could not donate money, could not volunteer, it was driving me crazy, the most i could do was talking via messaging with an acquaintance in florida and urge him (unsuccessfully i think) to vote Obama.
But it didnt mattered because you did it! you didnt need the help of the millions of foreigners who until a few minutes ago were holding their breath and crossing our fingers, praying that you’ll make the right choice.
Phillies win the World Series. Obama is elected president. Once Penn State wins the BCS, it’ll be the best goddamn year ever for this liberal Pennsylvanian!
Thank you to my fellow Iowans. We are a largely neutral state, and could have swung either way. I am glad that the racism and bitterness we have heard from so many other areas did not seem to damper our spirits. Even the close fought races here were not horrible. I am proud that we had a great turnout and that our election was well-handled. Nobody in the state waited more than an hour to vote today.
Even moreso, thank you to everyone who caucused for Obama and who spoke openly in support of him. Iowa led the charge for Obama this year (whereas McCain did not even participate).
I’m so excited! And I just can’t hide it! I’m about to lose control and I think I like it!
Also, I was able to vote from the comfort of my bedroom. What an awesome election! I told people that my puppy was barking for Obama.
This is way better than the time I could walk, and did so to the local elementary school to vote, got a blister for my effort and, well, no more of him (after January). Hooray for the next four years!
I’m also proud of Texas. Sure, it looks red, but when you look at the votes, it’s purplish as of this time. That brings a smile to my face.
McCain, amidst the booing of his supporters, finally got to shed the wingnut road he had to walk and speak about Obama like a normal human being. I thought his speech was beautiful, actually.
You called it. Now liberals (who seem to have short memories) will get to find out how it feels to always be on the defensive instead of being the ones complaining.
Congratulations, Rush Limbaugh - the next few years should be pretty good business for you!
Considering that, even at the worst of times, America has managed to avoid getting overrun by military dictactors, I think we’re going to take a pass on your country “helping” us with our democracy, thanks.
And it was so inspiring to hear him do so. I’m not sure how you shed a wingnut road, but goddamn it, he made the decision to do so, and I could not be more proud. We all know that the RNC, and his campaign people forced him to go down that wingnut road in the first place, and there was nothing he could do to resist. It’s not like he ever took a stance, and then repudiated it after he lost something.
Oh, that’s right, in fact he did. He was against the removal of the Confederate flag from the South Carolina statehouse, but then apologized for his position after he lost the primary there. And now, he comes on, all high and mighty, and tries another phony and disgusting apology after he got his ass kicked.
Therefore, I ask the following question: Is it not time for the hagiographic treatment of St. McCain to finally end? Can we not, now, and for all time, discard him to the dustbin of history?
Followup to this thread from 2006 (the which was itself a sort of riposte to this thread from 2002).
A moment, indeed, for satisfaction, optimism, and, dare I say it, perhaps even a bit of ebullience (within the proper boundaries of decorum and dignity, it need hardly be added).
