You’ve just won a major award at an important awards show! The world is watching (and may I just say that you’re looking lovely this evening?) and the orchestra leader has promised not to start up the music until you’re finished.
I’ve got a few people I’d like to thank from my life thus far, without whom my life would not have been the same. Specifically, I’d like to thank:
My parents, who – for parents – are remarkably cool people, and have been supportive of all the strange things I’ve done “as long as it made me happy”.
My friend Steve. We see each other maybe once every five years, but we start talking as if we’d only met the day before. A true friend is a wonderful thing.
My old music theory teacher, Dr. Carr, for convincing me to do what I didn’t know I wanted to do anyway, which was to pursue music. It’s all been worthwhile.
And finally…
My wife Ann, the world around which I orbit. Almost eleven years of marriage, and I can’t remember any other life – nor would I want to. Damn, I’m a lucky guy.
Your turn.
[Apres preview] Sorry, Chief – whichever place the mods want to put it is fine by me.
Have you heard Roger Ebert’s advice to the academy? He said they should simply disallow all thank you’s, which are just an uninteresting test of memory, and let the people say anything else. A few have done this, to great effect.
Firstly I’d like to thank anyone who recorded a song between 1950 and 1979, and Oldies 100, the radio station that played those songs, which kept me sane enough not to kill myself.
Secondly I’d like to thank my parents, without whose act of copulation I wouldn’t exist. Plus they’re pretty decent parents and all.
Lastly I’d like to thank my friends at the SDMB for keeping me sane the rest of the way.
