F5 no worky on Samsung laptop

I use my laptop during the night to play rain sounds and white noise (I live in a noisy household). The last thing I do before rolling over is hit Fn+F5 to turn off the screen. This stopped happening last night: nothing at all happens.

Did I accidentally hit a odd key configuration? Did I use up all my darkness?

Would appreciate any insight. Samsung, couple years old.

Thanks in advance

Well, key switches can go bad.

As an alternative, you could set up a blank screensaver (though it might be a problem if your mouse gets jiggled, or a fly lands on your keypad), or set the power settings such that the computer remains on when the lid is closed, and just close the lid. This might muffle the speakers a bit; but will that matter for this use?

Does the F5 work at all? (E.g. as the “reload page” command in most browsers)

If it does, but the Fn-F5 combination doesn’t work, I would try reinstalling the hotkey driver. That should be available for download on the Samsung web site.

Is it possible you hit a “function lock” key, and by pressing “fn” you were actually un-pressing “fn”?

Like when you have on caps lock and hit “shift” and get a lower-case letter.
