I got a Samsung Galaxy 5 a few months ago, just before the 6 came out. I’m very happy with it, but in the past two or three weeks it’s been doing something strange. Right when I’m in the middle of composing an email, or reading a web page, it will freeze for a few seconds and then go back to the Lock screen. when I unlock the screen, it goes right back to where it was. This happens several times a day. It doesn’t appear to happen (so far) when I’m just playing music, watching a video, or making a phone call.
Does this happen to anyone else? Any advice? I run DrWeb anti-virus scans regularly, and they come up clean.
I have an s5 and everytime it goes to the lock screen is because I’m a ham fisted ape and accidentally hit the lock button on the side. Especially when I’m typing/doing something actively on it rather than passively watching/listening. Now, I’m not calling you a ham fisted ape since I don’t know you at all, but I might be strongly suggesting you might be. Or you may have a legitmate hardware or software issue instead of a meatware issue…
Thanks. I’m not going to deny being a ham fisted ape, but I can rule it out as the cause of this particular problem. My phone case has a kickstand, and sometimes it locks when all I’m touching it with is a single fingertip.
Plus, when I hit the lock button, the screen goes black and then the lock screen comes up. In the cases I described, it goes to the wallpaper image and then the lock screen comes up.
You might try clearing the cache.
If that doesn’t work, you can try booting in safe mode. If the problem goes away, then it’s likely an app that is causing the problem.
If the problem persists in safe mode, Samsung recommends doing a master reset. I would only use that as an absolute last resort, as that will wipe out all of your personal info.
There are instructions for clearing the cache, booting in safe mode, and doing a master reset here.
