Strange Cell Phone Problem. Weird.

I have a Samsung Knack phone, very basic, no camera, etc with which I’ve replaced my land line. Verizon is my provider.

The phone has a rocker switch on it’s edge which can mute the ring and change the volume. I, on occasion, have inadvertently pressed the switch while picking up, with no ill effect. Until yesterday.

The phone locked up on the screen advising me that the ringer was off. None of the keys worked. I couldn’t use the red button turnoff. I ended up pulling the battery and reinstalling it. The same thing happened a second time.

Can this be a virus?

I have had cell phones freeze up just like a computer. The only way to get them to reboot was to yank the battery. As far as I know from checking around for a reason for this it’s just something that happens with technology sometimes. Had an mp3 player freeze up, too.

Yeah, devices of all sorts will lock up or exhibit otherwise strange behavior due to various glitches in the software or hardware. It happens all the time.

I’m curious as to why “virus” occurred to you as the potential culprit first. For starters, especially if it’s a very basic phone, how would you have received such a virus?

I’ve had a cell since 2000 and this was the first time I’d seen or even heard of one locking up. It was as if something alien had taken it over. My question was almost a joke. I don’t doubt that “it just happens sometimes” is a better answer, it just never had happened to me.

Oh, I see. That makes sense. I really was just curious, I hope you don’t think I was taking a shot at your or anything.
