Wow! Facebook really does suck!
People trust big tech? Lol. Wait til the tentacles are firmly in place. There will be no privacy.
Facebook played fast and loose with their privacy policy in order to do this. No one at all should ever believe that anything put on Facebook is private. In fact, under the guise of “convenience” Facebook often takes other information from your computer. Theoretically, users have agreed to this, but in reality there’s a LOT of fine print.
Nice post/Username combo.
I use all these big tech services, but I always tell myself and everyone else to assume everything you post or write is public and to go from there when deciding what to post or PM. It’s kinda naive to think otherwise.
Maybe, but people can still be confused about where those boundaries of privacy lie. What exactly have we agreed to when we use Facebook? Have we agreed to allow tracking cookies while we’re logged in? Probably, yes. Have we agreed to let Facebook read our messages and collect information about our usage habits? Sure. Have we agreed to allow third parties collect information about us when we’re not even thinking about logging into Facebook? Probably not.
If Facebook would just tell us what we’re agreeing to with some transparency, there probably wouldn’t be a problem. The problem is, they’ve never been transparent, nor have they ever intended to be. They’ve wanted to be the gold mine of data collection, which is what they baked into their pitch to investors. It’s hard for them to turn back now.
I have been telling people for several years that Facebook’s terms and conditions allow the company to do whatever they want with your computer.
I’ve told them that it’s in black and white that if you use Facebook’s app, Facebook can turn on your phone’s microphone and camera without your knowledge at any time.
Every single person I’ve told this too has dismissed me as a Cassandra.
Facebook is selling you and your entire life to the highest bidder, whether it’s a company or the Kremlin.
It’s good that you’ve told them that, but that doesn’t absolve Facebook and other tech companies of the responsibility of telling users. Leaving your door unlocked isn’t a good idea, but that doesn’t mean you’re giving your neighbor permission to burglarize your home.
And they do enable your camera.
I didn’t have a Facebook account in the past. I have my cameras disabled on my computer. Recently, I registered a Facebook account. Since that day, there is a message on my computer that my cameras are disabled that has never appeared before. Luckily, Facebook blocked my account after 2 days. I deleted my account.
Zuckerberg was quoted as calling people who trust the website’s security as “Stupid fucks”.
So… Jewish civil war? The first one since Jeroboam vs. Rehoboam? Or Maccabees vs. Hellenizers? Or Lepke vs. Schultz?
That is an absolute lie.
The term he used was “dumb fucks”.
Facebook helps kids unknowingly waste $100’s of their parents’ money.
Here’s an exchange between two Facebook employees unsealed by a court. The age of consent is apparently 13 — Is this Facebook or law? — so this young kid addicted to “Ninja Saga” (or “Angry Birds” or whatever) was not entitled to a refund. Parents typically fill out an on-line credit slip for $20 but continue to get charged without the parent’s consent (and often without full awareness of the charge by the teen or pre-teen playing the game).
