Facebook

I was dragged kicking like a mule into facebook, but now am on it constantly, posting stupid photos and playing Gardens of Time…

Joe

I said rarely, and taken as an average over the year, that’s true. I just got an account on Monday and I use it sometimes. Mostly because my friends all use it to plan things and I don’t like being left out.

Yes, 99.9% of my friends are in different countries to me. I use it every day to see what people are up to, to have short communications (e.g. “your baby is gorgeous”, “congratulations on your engagement” and last night “sorry your puppy died” :() and to broadcast non-specific messages and photos about what I’m up to.

Despite its varying annoyances I find it indispensable. A bit like life.

Never had one, doubtful that I ever will, even though I’m in their demographic (33 year old college graduate). Several factors:

-My wife has one and has friended many of my relatives/friends so I can keep track of them that way, if necessary.
-My specific age group seems to have partially missed the social network revolution. I was already out of college when MySpace was getting big, so it was never a “thing” for us.
-I do use Twitter somewhat heavily and find it to be a perfectly adequate way to keep contact with people. It also lets you discuss things publicly which is awesome.

Never had a F/B account; don’t want one.

No love or hate either way, frankly. I already have too much screen/device time in my life already, and I’m no where near as bad as the generations behind me (I’m in my 40’s). If I want to get together with friends, I just call them/leave a message. My circle of people is nicely tight - no chance of filling Tahrir Square, thankfully.

Have one. I think the last time I posted was ~14 months ago when my son was born. I went one day to use it and the layout completely changed so I shrugged and did something else instead.

Awww. :frowning:

It’s my public email account and, formerly, a source of games. I don’t use it as a social network, but as a way for people to find and contact me if they need to.

Never had an account, never had interest in one. Guess I missed out on the whole social networking thing as they all frankly bore me to tears: Twitter, MySpace, Facebook, Google+, etc. I like message boards, but even then, I don’t spend tons of time posting on them.

I have one but never/very rarely use it.

I used it when I was in college the first time through, but once my fiancee left me I stopped using it because I don’t need constant reminders of how everyone I graduated with is happy and leading good lives while I’m here miserable and lonely.

It’s a pathetic “boo hoo woe is me” reason, but it’s a prevalent one.

I have one and I use it regularly. The vast majority of my family are also regular users of facebook and it allows us to all keep up to date - something that never happened before facebook. I hadn’t talked most of my cousins in over 10 years. Now I “talk” to them every day.

I am lucky because other than the occasional political or religious links (with reasonable and sane comments) I don’t get inundated with the obnoxious crap that a lot of people complain about. I genuinely enjoy seeing what is going on with my friends and family, especially because it saves me from having to talk on the damn phone.

Tell me please, is there something I’m totally fucking missing about Facebook?

Because I just logged on, since you know, I’m supposed to do that once or twice a week according to this poll, and all I see, all I ever see, is a wall of completely inane updates of people with comments like “Attempted 1 egg/1 toast = not a good idea…where’s Ralph and his dog Barf :(”

This is fucking it? What is the fucking point? Please let me know. Please!

I use it daily, mostly for a few games, and to keep in touch with a few friends and family members. It’s a handy way to share news and photos of the kids, organize carpools for after school practices, and invite folks for various events. I log in daily, usually for anywhere from 5-30 minutes. (But I play Words with Friends on my phone.) When I worked overnight, Farmville, Bejeweled, and chatting with friends in different time zones kept me going through a lot of boring shifts.

It’s a reflection of your social circle. Solution: get more exciting friends.

I live on Facebook.

(it’s the games, pretty much)

I’ll be honest, none of my REALLY close friends are even on Facebook.

But I ask again, is that all there is? Stupid fucking status updates? (Unless I want to play a stupid fucking game?)

I’m serious. What do real people do on Facebook besides look at updated statuses and perhaps the occasional picture? No really.

Lacunae Matata: Organize carpools? How? What? Where is this functionality embedded?

Not a function per se, but often a chat or private message: “Hey, Jane’s Mom: I have a doctor’s appointment this Tuesday. Can you get my kid, and I’ll get them next week after student council?” And so on.

Thanks.

But I guess this relies on Jane’s mom actually bring on Facebook when you’re on Facebook.

In my world emails and the telephone seem to work better. Since the chances of me logging into Facebook right at the moment one of my contacts is logged in is pretty remote.

Or, maybe once more I’m missing the point. As usual!

I deleted mine

I am a Facebookaholic! I am on there numerous times/day checkin in with my peeps…and when drinking heavily…I am THE best DJ…everyone loves my Utube vids!!!
