I’m curious what exactly you’re objection is. You already voluntarily gave them your name and birthday when you signed up, and it’s likely there are pictures of you on there already. What are they asking for that you’re not willing to give them?
From the link I provided above it seems that Facebook will probably shut off access to your account if they have decided that you need to verify your ID. You can choose to ignore their request and hope you get lost in the weeds, or you can contact them. Yes, it’s a pain to ask them a question but you will eventually get an answer.
But the bottom line is that they’re asking you to verify your identity and I’m not sure the reason why they want you to do so is all that relevant. If you don’t want to, then you’ll probably get bumped from FB. Or not, it’s hard to say if they will terminate your account over this.
My objection is that I don’t know if this is from facebook or some scam to get my info.
What are they asking you to do with the picture? If they want you to email it to some email address in China or Russia then you’re right to be suspicious. But if they’re asking you to upload it to a web page in the facebook.com domain, then it’s almost certainly legit.
