So, here on the Dope I learned of the short story “The Entrance;” several people described it as a story that truly scared them. I went and ordered the book, and then discovered that the story involves mirrors. I haven’t been able to make myself read it yet, as I’ve always had a real issue with scary stuff involving mirrors or shadows - anything where an image of yourself winds up turning evil.
Today I was reflecting that perhaps this all started with a totally messed up cartoon I watched when I was 7 or so, where a king’s shadow became evil, mocking him and turning into a monstrous shape when he turned his back on it. So I Googled “children’s cartoon evil shadow,” and dingdingding, Faeriescame up. I checked out the YouTube video and found the scene. I was like, “Gee, this isn’t that bad, kind of goofy . . . OH LORD, why did they market this for children?!”
So of course now I’m thinking about getting a copy for my kids.
