Better watch what you say. You might receive…An Ultimatum.
I agree with others who have responded to this sordid story with, “I can’t believe he, let alone his family did this to her!”
But I really mean it. I can’t and don’t believe it. When did this happen? Where? Was there a notice of this man’s death in the paper? An article? An item on a police blotter?
Has the local media covered this story?
Regarding the questions of legal recourse/proof: I’m not certain that the family would have had to really involve the cops. They could have just claimed that the cops found his car, and so on.
Oh, I see GaWD—they weren’t dating for a month, they broke up a month ago. I read that wrong.
Still, unless the relationship was long-lasting, deep, and the breakup was especially horrific and traumatic, I just can’t see it.
No, not even then can I see it. It’s still twisted, bizarre and evil.
How he got his family (his mother, no less!) and friends to go along with this sick, twisted and cruel stunt is amazing, sure. But where was this fake wake held and who “officiated”? I can’t even begin to imagine a church or a clergyperson going along with this shit.
I’m not a litigious person, but if I were “Shirley”, I think I’d give some serious thought to seeking medical assistance for the trauma and suing every one of those fuckers who participated for infliction of emotional distress – especially the ex!
Hold on…
After the WAKE? You mean to tell me this man’s friends, family, and a funeral home went along with this? I’m not trying to call you a liar, spoofe, but man alive this rings all the BS bells.
If it indeed happened that way and there’s no misunderstanding, holy shit what a bunch of fucked up people.
I knew a guy who did something similar, actually. He broke up with his girlfriend and she moved out of state. About 6 months later he had one of his friends call up to tell her that he’d died in a car accident. Poor girl was in hysterics…cut to two years later, when she learns that he didn’t die after all. He’d been in the car accident and got injured, but he was very much alive.
Why’d he do it? Got me…
Sheesh, she comes from a long line of assholes, doesn’t she. The fact she got a whole crowd together to, to, to, ugh I just don’t understand this at all. I think she needs to make sure she tells as many people(single women in particular) as possible about these people. It seems like they’ve done this before. Maybe that’s how they get their jollies.
SPOOFE, you’re a really smart fellow, what-say you apply your brain on helping your friend “Shirley” seek that best-served-cold revenge on him and his gang. Off course, nothing illegal or physical, just a royal mind-fuck: Eye for an eye and all that.
The OP said that the lady had been told he was cremated, and a wake was arranged. A funeral home needed not be involved from then on. Many wakes are at a friend/family members house, so to her, the funeral thing was already over.
I’m sure SPOOFE will be along to clarify things, but there’s no need for the cops or a funeral home to be involved in this sick little mindfuck. The family could have lied about the search for the body and such, and wakes can just as easily be held at a home as at a mortuary. Get a fancy urn and fill it with ash from the grill, presto, instant fake cremated Dick.
He probably lied till he was blue in the face to his family. Made up stories about how evil Shirly was as a person, and probably got them to do this to her by adding all sort of colorful stuff that she supposedly commented about the family.
Truely sickening.
SPOOFE, I have to admit I really have a tough time believing this, especially that a mother and an entire family would be psycho enough to assist in this nutty psychodrama. Who told you this? Do you have absolute first hand knowledge of the veracity of this story or is this a tale relayed to you by someone else? No disrespect intended, but without concrete verification it’s the kind of story that just pegs my BSometer.
I wish the following punchline were added:
“…then she mentioned that she gave her friends the key to his place and told them they could have his furniture if they picked it up that afternoon.”
But as it stands…WTF!
Hello? Karma? Got anything for these losers?
Seriously, isn’t it just tempting fate to pull a sick, stupid, incredibly un-funny stunt like that? Or maybe the family were just big fans of “Scare Tactics”, the most horrifying show on television.
That…that is just freaking psychotic. I’d see about a restraining order, just in case. That’s messed up.
Another vote for “I can’t believe this.” Literally. Someone has a vivid imagination.
I can’t decide whether this is an awesome band name or the newest Ronco informercial product.
I’m siding with Zette here. My shenanigans meter is reading off the scale here…until proven otherwise, I’m convinced that someone fed you a real good story, SPOOFE.
Nothing to add, except for the fact that my in-laws are named Dick and Shirley.
For real.
It added a whole other level of surreality to SPOOFE’s story for me.
I don’t know if someone fed SPOOFE a line of bullshit, but one of my friends’ mom could pull, well, nothing remotely as bizarre as this, but she did very “un-mom” things. Like ganging up or conspiring with the rest of the family on one of her own daughters (who never was that terrible) over petty shit.
I know, it doesn’t sound like it’s anything remotely similar, and in a way it isn’t. But yet it was such a shock for me to find out that this 60-year-old mom was pulling such childish high school bullshit on her own daughter.
The mind boggles, is all.
