There are two people I know. Let’s call them, oh, Dick and Shirley. They were going out until about a month ago. Shirley broke up with Dick. Nothing particularly malicious… she just wasn’t interested anymore, and they had been drifting apart for a while. But I digress.
After the break-up, Dick apparently disappeared. Took his personal effects, his car, and vanished from the Valley. They (“they” being his closest friends and family) said that they found an engagement ring on his desk. Alarm bells are sounding. People were worried. After a few days, They said that the cops found his car, cell phone, wallet, and ID, abandoned in San Diego. Things are REALLY fucked up now. Talk is going around about the possibility that the poor kid killed himself. He was a good buddy of mine. Shirley was torn up, depressed as all hell.
Fast forward. Apparently, a couple nights ago, Shirley got a call in the middle of the night from Dick’s mother. She said that they found Dick’s body. She later said that they had him cremated, and arranged a wake. Shirley went, torn up, depressed, sad, upset, tearful. After the wake, she was leaving, but turned around to the sound of every other fucking person there laughing and applauding. Turns out that Dick had gotten his family and friends in on a plan to fake his own death for the sole fucking purpose of getting back at Shirley.
So now SPOOFE is pissed. Dick had better hope he not come within an arm’s - or fist’s - reach of SPOOFE.
You ARE kidding, aren’t you? What sort of a lowlife does this sort of thing, let alone getting his family and friends to help him out in the performance?
Someone in a web community that I used to belong to faked her own death once, and everyone got in a total tizzy about it. I suspected it was fake from the moment I heard about it (the woman who did it was just the sort of person you’d expect it from if she thought she could get away with it…total dramaqueen). It sucked for everyone involved, even though it was “only” online.
I can’t even imagine the malice and assholishness required to set it up IRL. The nastiness is beyond comprehension. I know that the kneejerk reaction in the US is to sue, sue, sue…but seriously. If there were ever a worthwhile frivolous lawsuit (I know, I know…oxymoron), this is it.
His MOTHER made the call??? Oh my god. Friends, I can almost understand. A brother, perhaps. But for a mother to call and say her son’s body had been found, cremated, etc… that’s too fucked up. Especially since (and I’m giving spoofe the benefit of the doubt here…) the breakup wasn’t malicious.
I hope the guy taped it. He could make a mint selling it to America’s Most Fucked Up Home Movies.
Really, though, I’d love to compare and contrast Shirley’s version of the break-up with Dick’s. Dick must have one hell of a story if he was able to convince his entire family to go along with the “gag”.
Damn, I was hoping to find out that I had missed the words “Urban Legend” somewhere in the OP. SPOOFE, that is truly sick…especially the part where everyone laughed at her!
Damn, I can’t believe an entire family would be so fucked up as to pull this kind of bullshit, especially over something as… commonplace, as lame, as trite as a breakup because a couple drifted apart. Hell, even if he lied his ass off to his family, I can’t see many excuses that would convince all of them to go along with this stunt. What the fuck. Shirley should - once she deals with being the targeted of such a sick joke - thank her lucky stars that she did dump the guy and didn’t marry into such a twisted family.
A friend of mine’s wife killed herself a couple weeks ago, and I know it has just torn him to bits. I can’t imagine the misery they put her through for a sick joke, making her think that their breakup had contributed to his suicide.
kambuckta, to give Lord Ashtar the benefit of the doubt, I think I know what he was trying to say.
I think that he was saying that it would almost kind of, sort of make sense to do something that twisted and evil if the relationship had been a long one and the break-up had been particularly traumatic. (But it would definitely be twisted and evil.) We are more accustomed to hearing bizarre stunts like this being pulled by people after a long-term relationship has falled apart in an ugly way.
But this was just after a month of dating. No particular emotional break-up either. And the Dickhead got his mom involved.
Yes, it would make loads of sense if they had gone out for years and years and someone fucked someone else over in a bad way and the other person couldn’t let go. If it WAS only a month of dating, then there’s something wrong there.
It’s still amazing that someone could pull his friends and family together to pull something like this off. THAT is what amazes me, not the act itself. I don’t condone it, it’s not nice, borders on emotional torture, and well, Dick’s a dick.
