Falcon and the Winter Soldier (Spoilers)

I’m gonna need one of you clever folks to make a YT clip combining Buckys ‘Amends List’ with “My Name is Earl”

“My name is James Buchanan Barnes…”

It’s not an “apology” list, it’s a “making amends” list. I suspect there is a subtle difference there.

That’s also what I found most impressive about the opener. This feels like we just saw a segment of a real world, with real background, political issues, attempts to deal with the sudden reality of billions of people returning after five years, twelve-step programs to help those affected by the surrounding issues, political fallout, and so on, all drawn with impressive economy. If they can keep this up, rather than going into ‘super people beat up other super people’ mode, I think this could be really great.

It was much more relationship-heavy than I expected, and well done so that’s a good thing, not a bad thing.

Although as a pilot I found the depiction of the flight/aircraft scenes pretty, um, well, it’s a super hero movie and actual physics don’t apply. What was the MST3K mantra again…?

That’s what they did in My Name is Earl. Earl would apologize to the person on his list and then do his best to make it up to them.

I enjoyed F&WS a bunch. It’s the marvel show I was most excited about since it looked like traditional super hero fare and after the meh that was WV I was even more excited for a pallet clenser. The opening action went on too long but it was nice to see some fun action set pieces around setting up some interesting bad guys and the personal problems of our heros.

Imagine if you’d just sat through all of WandaVision and then friends got you to watch Joss’s Justice League followed by Justice League: The Zacktastophe…

As soon as Falcon started flying, I said (out loud) “It’s sunny! And a super-hero is actually enjoying life!”

Ugh, I made it through joss’ and realized I didn’t care if I ever heard about any of the characters again. I can’t imagine watching the 4 hr extended cut afterwards. WV wasn’t bad I just need some fun to balance my drama and they chose to balance drama with WTF.

My only real nitpick was i found the betrayal of Falcon came awfully quickly. Buckys plight was very touching and its bizarre to me that the show and Endgame implies Steve abandoned him.

He spells it out. He was Winter Soldier, had a little peace, had a battle, blipped, had another battle…i guess/ASSUME…Steve spoke with him or set something up, I mean…where was he supposed to go??

I’m kinda wondering what happened to that C-130 from the opening fight …

Overall - I think it was a good episode with a nice cliff at the end - lots of set up in it.

I didn’t get that feeling. I rewatched the end of Endgame recently. It seemed obvious to me (on second viewing) that Bucky knew that Steve was going to live through time rather than transport through time. The two of them had already worked it out & said their goodbyes.

I’ve been trying to avoid trailers (again), but the few that I have seen make this look like it’s going to be “Lethal Weapon - MCU edition.” Much less my sort of thing than WV, but I am liking it so far.

Sam is pissing me off with his insistance that his sister keeps the family business (that he doesn’t have to deal with on a day-to-day or even month-to-month basis.) It still wouldn’t be great for him if he were in it every day, but with him gone - he’s trapping her. I hope that the writers know this even if the character doesn’t. The Bucky therapy scenes kind of reminded me of “The Sopranos.” (it’s been 20 years, I am misremembering).

Thats a good point about Endgame…I forgot that.

Can I say how much I appreciated a scene where a superhero promises to show up for an important civilian thing, and doesn’t end up missing it because of super villains? I was so sure that Sam promising to be at the bank was going to be end up being preempted by Batroc, or Nemo, or Paste-Pot Pete.

I, too, was so surprised that Sam made it to the bank!

And, you know, you might have thought you were just being ironic, but Paste-Pot Pete is a big part of the upcoming Doctor Strange movie, holding the multiverse together.

In fact, there’s a scene where I pop up from the bottom of the screen and admit that I was making this all up. Then I go on to lament the fact that we never get the good old mediocre Silver Age villains. Kevin Feige pops up and we discuss why Stilt-Man never showed up in the Netflix Daredevil series.
Kevin: “When I was watching the infamous S1,Ep3 hallway fight I really wanted S-M to peek in a window, and Matt would give him a swift kick in the face and walk away.”
Me: “Cut to exterior shot of a woozy Stlty teetering, teetering, annnnd tipping over down the length of West 49th street…”
Applause from Strange, Wong and Squirrel Girl onscreen, and the movie resumes.

The part with the old man’s son was a little confusing. I really didn’t know that was supposed to be him until I looked it up online. I sort of wish Black Window could show up since this seems to be right up her alley. And New!Cap having the shield is weird and low-stress if all the ads show Sam with it.

Given the range of greys and sepias in Zack Snyder’s Superfriends, I’m going to start calling Snyder the “palette clenser”.

It’s actually pretty hard to NOT get killed in those flying squirrel suits.

Who?

Nemo? This one or this one?

I took that as a typo for Zemo, as in Baron Helmut Zemo. Perhaps it was an autocorrect issue. My tablet just tried to turn Zemo into Semi.

Also, if you want to see Wyatt Russell in something else, he plays the main character in the series “Lodge 49”.

This one.

Or, maybe this one?
