OK, I've seen The Avengers - open spoilers!

Since spoilers have been an issue in the original thread. Spoilers ahoy!

Good, that last thread got tedious.

Think they’ll hold a direct conflict with Thanos off for the third movie?

Any one else not care about Hank Pym ever making it to the screen? It seems like most people just want him in as a shoe-in for Ultron.

If they do Ultron in a future movie, they’ll probably rewrite the story to have Ultron come from Stark. Adding Hank Pym at this point would require an entire additional new character to be added, and would run the risk of confusing the audience by now having two robotics-oriented inventor geniuses on the team.

Yeah, after a while it just got too damn hard to read.

Ant-man, or whatever, is one of the silliest damn heroes ever. I hope he never makes it to the screen.

Why couldn’t they have come up with a sexy female super-powered Avenger? I mean, she was hot (and cool) but standing there with her two little pistols looked silly as all hell. Why not the Scarlet Witch?

But I carp needlessly, it was a truely great film. I hope everyone remembered to sit thru* all* the credits!

Yeah, don’t really care about Pym making the movie or not but would love to see Ultron in it. Would also like to see the Wasp and the Vision.

At the end it turns out Iron Man is Howard Stark’s sled.

That was just so silly. If the enemy can be fended off with a handgun then why have a 2 1/2 movie about superheroes? And is it just me, or did Gwyneth Paltrow look even hotter than Scarlett?

well, there weren’t just any handguns - they had +1 armor/durability and an infinity clip.

That, in a movie about superheros, is my biggest single qualm.

The non-superpowered character who pals around with superbeings and holds his/her own is a long standing comic book trope. Marvel has Black Panther, Daredevil (sort of), Punisher, Moon Knight, etc. Even Captain America is way outclassed by Thor and Iron Man. And of course there DC has Batman, who hangs with Superman and Wonder Woman. Part of the pleasure in a superhero ensemble is watching heroes with wildly differing power levels fight as a unit. The Badass normals–to use TVtropes phrase–hold their own, and are an integral part of a superhero group.

ETA: Would have been nice to see Black Widow use the “widows bite” electric stunners from the comics.

She did use them. They were used in the climactic battle scene.

Musta missed it. I’ll look for them on re-watch.

There’s a fan theory that Coulson’s mind will be the basis for Vision ala Stark.

BTW, Larry, now that I think about it, I’m not absolutely certain that she used the Widow’s Bite in that scene. The movie did feature a stylized illustration of the Widow’s Bite in its ending credits, and I might have been thinking of that instead.

She “stabbed” one of the Chitauri in the back of the neck with it.

And Black Widow does have superpowers. She can jump onto an airborne sled moving 60 miles and hour and not break her ankles.

Agree that Ant-Man is terribly lame. Don’t think the Wasp would be much better. Ultron would be awesome.

I personally wouldn’t like Scarlet Witch, just because her power set is a bit nebulous. But one could probably do some good scenes with her hexes (bad guys’ guns misfiring, slipping and hitting their own guy in a melee, etc). And of course I’d love anything that could set up a Magneto connection (though Fox apparently owns the rights to the X-Men movies so no Avengers/X-Men crossover anytime soon).

Maybe Ms. Marvel for a super-powered female character? IIRC her powers are basically Superman’s. She-Hulk might be a bit too corny.

Pym hasn’t always been as lame as the neurotic, self obsesssed character he’s become these days. It sounds like we are going to get an Antman movie before too long, but seeing as Edgar Wright is being lined up to direct, it will probably be played for laughs (Ok - So Hulk threw out his back hauling all the AVENGERS Box Office - but does this mean Edgar...).

Antman would be useless in this lineup of Avengers, but a Giantman/Goliath might work ok

I wasn’t much of a fan of Antman or the Wasp until I saw the Avengers cartoon. I thought Pym became a better character and Van Dyne “took a level.” I also like how he goes between Antman and Giant man, so following that template Pym could be a scientist who reluctantly becomes an Avenger, but he’s more insterested in the science stuff than actual Avengering.

As said above, Scarlett Witch and Ms. Marvel would be good as well. I think having Witch onboard would be cool because it brings a different powerset to the team. It would be cool to have Ms. Marvel as well, but the one thing is that she’s strong and she flies – Thor already does that. Scarlett Witch would also introduce mutants into the movie, so that’s another thing.

I am expecting Iron Man to configure his suit to fly in outer space for the next Avenger movie.

Can the Mark 7 do that now?

There is a scene where she user the widow’s bite against a Chitauri. She zaps him with it from behind.
