It’s not just any old ice cream, either. It’s ice cream disguised as a working farm and dairy. With cows and pigs and chickens.

Sounds udderly divine.
It’s on my calendar. I’m planning to be there. Moo.
Is it in ink Fisher, or did you just pencil it in?
I can’t believe it. All these great directions and only two takers. Sheesh. Maybe I should wrangle up some Celebrity Guests. (Steve Irwin’s gonna be there! And Charo!)
From Bedrock-
Build a Time Machine
Freeze yourself for 80 million years
Take a bus.
Alternate route from Bedrock-
Talk nice to Gazoo.
Maybe buy him flowers and stuff.
Aww, Rue, I’ll be there in spirit if that counts for anything. You know I lust after you more than anyone else on this board, but even lust has its limits, and the limit of my lust is 14 hours in a car.
Would it make a difference if I promised to take my dog for a walk that day? Just for you?
Hey, I was just looking at 50Hikes in Ohio by Ralph Ramey (it has a write up on Glen Helen- learn more about it at your local library) and that reminded me…
The last time I was there there was this one rock with something scratched into it. If I had a crayon and some tissue paper I could have taken a rubbing and been able to tell what it said. Only I don’t usually carry crayons and tissue paper with me and as far as I know I’ve never taken a rubbing in my life. But if you like to take rubbings of odd rocks, there’s this one you might want to rub on. If we find it again. It shouldn’t be too hard to find. I dug and “X” into the path right next to it.
There’s also Helen’s Stone which has a poem on it. You could rub that if the mood takes you.
And you have a crayon and some tissue paper.
So you see? This isn’t a blatant bump. I was saying something.
Ah, Rue, how I envy you. A day spent wandering the sweet Mad River Valley. There once was a Boy Scout camp near Yellow Springs. A wonderful place. A beautiful part of the country. A late fall day in the Ohio woods–what could be better?
But here I sit balanced on the edge of the prairie where it breaks down to the Upper Mississippi, fighting the damned Asian Soya Bean Aphid Beetles. Have a good time. Skip a rock for me and for old times.
Now that the thing in Columbus is over (I now expect people to show up from three and four states away- slortar I’m looking at you.), we can concentrate on more important things. My things. Saturday, November 15th @ 10:00am in Yellow Springs, Ohio.
“But Rue,” you ask. “What if the weather gets large?”
Why, that’s a good question! In the event of Large Weather (active raining, highs projected to not hit 45ºF, meteorite showers, that sort of thing), then we could all meet up at Wright Patterson Air Force Museum. Tell them you’re with me and they’ll treat you right.
Now that’s fighting dirty. The Air Force museum sounds awesome.
Directions from Dayton:
Smoke some pot and wear a peace symbol. The police will drive you to Yellow Springs. (Bruises optional)
Otherwise, find your way to I-675 North (such as by taking US-35 East), and then follow the Sin-Sin-Natty directions.
Most Saturdays, I clobber men twice my age in tennis. Perhaps a change will do me good.
I’d come, but I gotta be at work 12ish at Cleveland Play House. Still, I’ll get my tree walk, since the show I’m doing is Forest City!
Maybe if someone could lend me their teleporter…
We have lots of those damned Asian ladybugs here, maybe they’d like to stop by and eat some damned Asian Soya Bean Aphids. Or is that what you meant? I’m looking to export, not import, so’s you know.
And the early forecast for the weekend is:
Partly cloddy, high around 50.
Not sure what the clods are for. And it’s almost certain not to be that weather, just because. But I’m in for the Museum if the weather gets large. And I’ll bring The Boy if you bring Soupo. Deal?
Awww, that’s my old stomping ground! I got bit by a turtle at Glen Helen once. (The memories…)
Are you going to stop by Young’s Jersey Dairy afterwards?
Oops, that’s what I get for not reading closely. Mooooooo
Have fun!
If I’m not forced to strangle him or box him up and send him to Darkest Peru (Indiana- less postage that way) Soupo’s coming along. At least that’s the plan now. He has new boots and everything. Plus his own canteen. He’s a real outdoorsboy. He just needs his own Stick.
Just checking, but where’d you get the forecast for the weekend already Shibb? It is NEXT weekend. The 15th.
Of wait. It’s already Thursday. That means next weekend is in the 10 Day Outlook.
50º ain’t too shabby. But bring a hat, just in case. (You know, you lose 50% of your heat through your head…)
Oh, and you can bring The Girl too if you want. There aren’t any Mazes, so we should all be safe.
The Girl does have soccer after all. They’ve put together an indoor team of all of her school friends. So she probably can’t make it. But if it’s just me and him then The Boy will think that it’s great adventure. If he gets to see guns (mounted to planes) then that’s just bonus. Ice cream is double secret bonus.
Hey Rue! They have trees in Ohio?
The reason I wonder is because I’ve won an all expense paid trip to beautiful downtown WILMINGON, Ohio to do some writing for a pharmaceutical company. I will be there all week every week, with the option to fly home on the weekends. It could be that I choose to hang out with you and the trees one weekend instead of gathering the frequent flier miles. But I need to know WHERE is Wilmington in relation to your trees and rubbing rocks and stuff?
Oh, and do I need my own Canteen?
L
Hope this link works:
Driving directions from Wilmington to Yellow Springs. They’re about 15-20 miles apart, far as I can tell. Would be great if you could make it. And bring two canteens, I don’t have one. Or some Ziploc bags and we’ll fill them in a creek or lake.
Wilmington is about half-way between Columbus and Cincinnati. It’s where the Bengals used to train before they switched to Georgetown, Kentucky. Now I don’t know what happens there. But it’s also close to Washington Court House, home of Southwestern Ohio outlet shopping.
(Just checked the link, doesn’t seem to hold the address. But you can use any Internet map to check the distances and general directions. Adjust as needed. )
Outlet shopping!? Oh joy! Do you guys live close to there? I’m a little concerned about being trapped in a hotel room from 5-11 pm every evening with nothing to do with myself. I will have a car while I’m there, but my social possibilities seem a bit limited, what with not even knowing where the trees are and stuff.
Thanks for the tips!
Laura
