Fallout 3

And occasionally on Brotherhood bodies.

Sadly not; once you’ve iced the 5 Super Mutie Behemoths (one’s outside GNR and you find by following the main quest, one’s locked up in Evergreen Mills, one’s east of Evergreen Mills in a trainyard and only appears if you steal his teddy bear, one’s in the dome of Congress and the other’s at the Takoma industrial estate) they don’t come back.

Apparently Operation: Anchorage does add new perks, the only one revealed so far is ‘Covert Ops’, but we don’t yet know what it does. My guess is an increase to sneak and small guns, or similar.

Oh, I misread; thought for some reason you were talking about random Super Mutants. Yeah, it’d be nice to have a few more Behemoths in the game.

Ah, cool! Where did you read/hear this? Any more details that you know of?

It would be nice if one of the new Perks is “master mechanic” or something, which would slow down the rate of equipment deterioration.

As far as the plungers, yeah, I found it. It was interesting. Someone mentioned it further upthread as well.

As far as Pumpkin, I thought I freed him and he attacked me, but I don’t really recall.

All I know is that after 70 or 80 hours of play, I don’t think I’ve visited even half the locations on the map (and that doesn’t even take into consideration the random buildings and shelters that aren’t officially mapped) and I’m already halfway to 19th level. I haven’t even visited the vault that’s part of the main quest yet. This game is massive.

I’m always coming across places that aren’t really, you know, interesting though. I keep thinking maybe I missed a quest starter or something, but I guess that in real life sometimes there’s just a factory with some stuff in it and it’s not always a Factory with some Stuff In It and By The Way Bring Me a Shrubbery.

An IGN interview on the first DLC (Operation Anchorage) with the developers:

Which is also where I found that Broken Steel (the one I’m really looking forward to, although I’ll have to wait til March) will raise the level cap.

Gamespot is running a story right now comparing Fallout 3 graphics between 360, PS3, and a well-hung PC; makes me glad I’m playing on PC! Man, the console screens look way dark in comparison.

Dark isn’t a problem, you can up the brightness/gamma on the game or even your TV. But lack of texture quality or view distance would be. At that resolution it’s hard to tell, it’s an 800 pixel wide image but my PC would play FO3 at 1650 pixels width. Don’t the clouds move in FO3? How could the clouds be in the same position on all 3 platforms?

In the third image set, the distant objects like the Washington Monument really seem to suffer in the PS3 shot.

I don’t remeber the clouds moving.

Trees certainly fair better on the PC.

They don’t move. That’s gonna bug me now! I’m pretty sure they did in Oblivion. And there’s no weather in FO3 either, just day and night cycles.

If you have the PC version, there are mods (currently two) that expand 3 Dog’s playlist by 20 tracks each. Any mp3 will work as long as they’re named “Track01.mp3” - “Track20.mp3”.

There’s more than that, actually. On Fallout3Nexus there are amongst the numerous radio mods a couple named “40 more from the 40’s” and “Another 40 more from the 40’s”, each of which add 40 songs (in 20 tracks of 2 songs each). I believe that you can have both installed simultaneously, though I only have one running at the moment. They don’t replace the default tracks, but are added to them - you still hear “I don’t want to set the world on fire,” just not very often. From what I can tell, they’re very nicely done, keeping the additions very much in line with the feel of the original soundtrack - though I installed the mod just before starting a new game, and am only now getting to hear the new stuff since I don’t have the relay dish fixed and haven’t been in DC much so far this game. But so far it’s very nice. And no copyright worries, as it’s all public domain.

I have to say, having played Far Cry 2 with it’s interminable cross country drives, I am loving the ability to instantly travel from locale to locale.

Yeah, but the mod they use only allow 20 in the folder at a time. I got one of them and only the first 20 showed up.

I see what’s going on. OldManMose76, who is responsible for these, doubled up on the tracks so that one track contains two songs.

Amen. (Though it’s only good if you’ve previously been to that locale.

And How nice V.A.T.S would be in Far Cry 2 (or just about any other game!)
I think I’ve finally done all I can do to still enjoy FO3. I’ve played it once to completion. I’ve been playing it a second time - I’ve visited nearly every locale (though not vault 87 from the outside*, only through Little Lamplight) I’ve got to level 29. I’ve done every quest I can find. I wanted the Firelance so I followed some online instructions to get it, but it wasn’t working so I cheated, and used the console to get it (and the mysterious stranger’s 44 magnum). Once you cheat you lose interest (thought it was ok because I was already at the point where I was dragging it out).
One thing I think would be cool for people like me is a new element to the game whereby if you’ve visited most of the map and are at a high level new things happen for you, such as people seeking you out for advice, or guidance, or to lead them to places they are too unskilled/ill equipped to get to themselves.

[sub]*Though I’ve sure tried. Using six radaway, move forward a bit, use ten radaway, move forward a bit, use 15 radaway… you get the idea. It doesn’t work.[/sub]

Yup. I linked to several of the early mods up thread in fact though there are better ones out now on Nexus.

I’m currently running a mod that gets around the level cap and keep your karma status, one for the prototype medic armor that administers drugs when you are hurt or sick, one for the Gauss gun (there is something wrong with the skin on mine…not sure if it’s my video or if it’s just the way the mod is), and one that allows my skills to go over 100 (this one is strange in that it the number doesn’t display over 100 but you can allocate points over 100).

I’m thinking about trying out the Megaton house expansion and a couple of the mini-quests and lands expansions…and maybe the mini-quest to get my own vault. I decided in this game to basically wander the wasteland after I managed to get the power armor training and before I talked to the old guy in the Citadel…this seems to give me the best of all worlds with the level cap effectively removed (I got the Explorer perk so now I can find all the places I missed). I figure once I explore all the places I missed, put in a few quest mods and such the official mini-expansion will be out and I can do that. If there isn’t more to do at that point I’ll go ahead and talk to the old guy and launch the final sequence. Be interesting to see what ‘level’ I’m up too (wish I had put the level cap mod in earlier).

Post any cool mods you guys are using if you would…it will be appreciated.

Is there a way to autoload the mods btw? Right now I’m having to go into Data and select them ever time. This isn’t too much of a strain as I am only running 5 mods atm…but I can see problems in the future if I run a lot of mods.

FOr me the mods stay selected. I have a shortcut to fallout3loader.exe on my desktop. (for some reason my games have stopped creating shortcuts to themselves in desktop or start menu)

If you’re on Vista, you can find them in the Games folder.
