Fallout 3

I’ve also missed the ability to sort your inventory by various factors (value for bartering, state of disrepair for repairing, etc)

I think there is a mod that lets you do that.

I not only didn’t take Bloody Mess the second time round, I downloaded a no dismemberment mod as well. It just took me out of the game to have a supermutant’s legs come off after shooting it in the face.

I’ll be very interested to see how they implement it, what with one of the endings… not being conducive to that sort of thing.

I’m just curious how it will work with the mods I’ve got in place already. My fear is I’m going to have to either go back to a very early saved game (before any mods) or even re-roll up a new char and play through again. My character is still 20 in theory (I’m using a mod that lets me level up while staying at 20), but he’s so modded at this point that he bears little resemblance to the original character.

I’ve been waiting for the PC Patch to homefully fix some of my crashing issues. I can only go from 20-40 minutes before the game locks up. I downloaded it last night and it wouldn’t install off the bat. I’ll may try again tonight, or wait until the update comes through on it’s own through steam.

I don’t have/use Windows Live at all. I wonder if that’s why the patch is giving me problems. Anyone here have problems with the patch (PC) ?

I haven’t been able to get the patch through Windows Live either - I’m wondering if it’s at all necessary? I’ve got no crashing issues, by the way.

I got the patch through LIVE, but it just sat there for at least 30 minutes with the progress bar at zero before it started (I went to bed, it was done the next morning). Since the patch, all I’ve noticed is a 2-3 second delay after entering VATS (before the percentages pop up) that wasn’t there before.

You inspired me to look up the console command (which I’ve never messed with, no pun intended) to remove the bloody mess perk. Supposedly it’s this, although I can’t try until tonight: player.removeperk 00094EBA

I don’t mind the looting problem, it just takes me out of the game when my scoped .44 magnum completely obliterates a super mutant. It’s not supposed to be the most realistic game, I realize that, but still…

Edit: I didn’t see Gorsnak’s post before I wrote that, honest!

Figured out my problem. I bought the game through Steam, and finally got the patch update today through Steam. Game still wouldn’t launch after the patch. After searching some forums I found out that you apparently need to have Games for Windows LIVE installed. Plus it has to be the latest version.

I don’t know why exactly, I got to level 12 without it installed before the patch. Seems to be working good now, no crashes so far.

Who wants Games for Windows LIVE? That’s crap stuff.

Bethesda is using Windows LIVE for their DLC (downloadable content) addons for the PC version of Fallout. To my understanding, part of the purpose of the patch was to update PC clients specifically for Windows LIVE. It may be crap, but it looks like it’ll be a necessity if you’re interested in the official DLC’s.

Hmm. I might wait til March time and see if Bethesda bunch the DLC together in a DVD-ROM like they did with Knights of the Nine for Oblivion.

Yeah. I know. But geez, talk about a stupid damn choice.

It’s a necessity if you want to play the game at all after the patch. I didn’t buy a box copy, so maybe it’s possible not to update. The update was forced onto my system via steam.

Damn. How much TSR memory hogging stuff is there in Games For Windows Live?

Aha! A way to disable Live, which will reduce crashes and improve performance.

I had to roll back to the previous patch, because I was getting constant crashes. I guess I’ll have to wait and see on buying the DLC, since I assume it’ll require the latest update.

Dog Meat and I are out for our evening stroll so I thought we’d wander by (mumble mumble) to see how things are going. Things are calm and I notice the beacon for the Enclave blue light special a few hundred yards to my left.

Saviour from Vault 101 (SV101): “Stay here, boy. Don’t move til I come back!”
Dogmeat: “<whine>”

I run in a bit closer and then sneak into a location overlooking the encampment. I observe an officer and three troopers engaged in PT.

SV101: (Hmm. They seem to be enjoying themselves, wonder if I can tweak Pipboy to their radio freq. )
SV101: hacks Pipboy radio receiver, listens a bit, and identifies the group below as Lt Pita, Pvts Alex, Brandon, and Calvin

Lt P: “Okay you lazy slugs, regs call for pushups, so drop and give me 2000.”
Pvt A,B,C: doing pushups
Pvt B, soto voc: “We’re in power armor, what in the hell do we need to do pushups for? It’s not like we’re actually exercising. Sheez.”
Pvt A: “Quityerbitchin. At least we’re not on patrol looking for SV101. I really don’t want to meet that guy.”
Lt P: “What!? Not enough ‘actual exercise’ for you? Double time!”
Pvt C: “Way to run your mouth jackass, hope you’re happy now”

SV101: (I could do these guys a favor and splatter Lt P on the wall behind him. And while you think they’d be grateful, it probably wouldn’t work out that way. Guess I should just put them out of their misery. Wonder what I’ve got in my kit.)
SV101: rumages through ammo pack, comes up with plasma grenade
SV101: (I’ve never used one of these, let’s see what kind of mess they make.)
SV101: Arms grenade and VAT tosses it onto Lt B’s ass
SV101: “Beezebub’s blazing blue balls, that was bright!”
Lt P, two health bars left: “Holy s***!”
SV101: Pulls out dart gun, plants one in Lt’s forehead

SV101: walks down and examines three glowing goo puddles, grabs loot
Wish I could have grabbed some screen shots, maybe I’ll figure that out for next time.

So, Operation Anchorage.

I happened to be awake last night when the DLC was uploaded, so I grabbed it immediately and played through the first hour or so. I really like the change of scenery after a million hours of playing the regular game, but so far there’s ZERO story other than “run through and kill all the chinamen” and it’s very linear. I was hoping for some exploring and stuff, but it’s nothing but “run along these cliffs and go through these tunnels.”

More later.
