I’ve got my stealth all the way cranked up, but I actually rarely find myself in those situations where I’m really dependent on those sneak attacks anymore. But you know, the constant squatting keeps my aim steady. Once I got to the quest where I had the option to gather weapons for those people underground and put them in the box, I did suddenly throw a bunch of points into pickpocketing, and now the revolution will be fought with weapons a bunch of scientists were wandering around with.
I shall now perform a short play I’ve written called “First encounter with an Assaultron and the FYYDB*”
*** Scene:** The ruins of an old highway*
Sole Survivor: Hmm what is that odd sound and glow, seems to be from up there.
Sole Survivor: Ohh it seems to be some chick robot with no mouth created by a lonely and disturbed Robotics Engineer.
SS: Hi there robot chick, you will take note that I have Shiny badass power armor with almost the optimal number of legs. I would like to take the moment introduce you to my high-power, extensively modified combat rifle. in addition…
Assaultron :Fuck you, you’re dead.

I wish I’d known ahead of time that I was going to need a military-grade circuit board for a main storyline quest. I’d encountered dozens of them up to that point and gleefully scrapped them for circuitry. Once I actually needed one, it took hours of scrounging around various dungeons which were suddenly completely devoid of them.
I think it happened to me: I got into a fight at the National Guard Training Yard with a sentinel robot. I started with a complete T45 suit. (Some pieces started in a damaged state.) It shot apart my power armor helmet (a T45). At the end of the fight, the helmet was completely missing. Not in my inventory, not in the power armor inventory, not laying on the ground somewhere. Completely gone.
That’s really weird.
I’ve been in fights with enemies where I’ve completely shot off pieces of armor and have had no problems recovering them. I wonder if it’s a bug, or if the armor just has a chance to leave the inventory if it ever drops to 0 health.
Yes to both.
With the exception of the perks you get from the Guns & Bullets magazine, which only apply to leadthrowers. And I believe one of the Tesla mag’s perks ups your crit damage with energy weapons.
I don’t like that they merged the Light Step perk in with the stealth. I like to sneak around, but still have to watch out for traps, it made dungeon crawling more exciting.
I might have to quickly play an old one to check if my memory is faulty, but stealth actually seems harder now, at least without stealth maxed (I think I put one point into the perk). Any time I run (not sprint, the movement speed that is on by default), people become quickly aware of me. Even if we are on different floors. I have to turn off Caps Lock or hold C in order to stealth properly. It may be that maxed stealth makes things too easy but I’m not there yet.
I like the new shrinking stealth icon, that’s very helpful without making things too easy.
It took me a while to put my finger on it, but Super Mutants sound like Grover.
If they sounded like that obnoxious little bastard Elmo, I’d sign up for the Enclave immediately just so I could wipe the wasteland clean of them all.
I’d install that mod.
We play quite similarly. I presume that quite a few people sneak with a sniper rifle outdoors.
I’m hesitant to take Lone Wanderer because I don’t want to miss out on the companion quests. Do you just have to get them to like you a lot?
Piper admires me now. What does that change?
The penalty for companion death really isn’t high enough. There ought to be a one day timer until you can pick them up again at Sanctuary or something like that. Losing them permanently is a little too much for most players including me but having Dogmeat and a nuke throwing supermutant go up in a mushroom cloud only to find Dogmeat kinda wimpering for a while before he’s back to full form was funny.
Also, when a speech test comes up, is it usually possible to get out of the conversation, change clothes and come back in? I usually wear battle-optimized clothes but can get +4 or 5 charisma points with other clothes.
Not all companions have a quest. Some of them just tell you about their life story or otherwise confide stuff in you. If they do have a quest, I think they usually give it to you around “admire,” which is the rank below maxed-out “idolize.”
If the companion does have a quest, I think you need to complete it to get that companion’s perk regardless of how much they like you.
There’s a monster at the end of this book! With a minigun!
That could be great or that could suck. Generally, I avoid companions like they are dripping with spirochetes. In NV, I tried having companions around because of their back stories. Some, like Arcade, were pretty awesome. Others, like Drunky the Clown, made my ass itch.
Drunky the Clown? In New Vegas? Played for a couple hundred hours and never saw him. Where did you fond him?
Rose Cassidy is Drunky the Clown.
I haven’t spent much time with some, but here are the ones who are most interesting/fun in my mind (no particular order):
Codsworth
Curie
Cait
Deacon
Nick Valentine
Nick Valentine’s quest is really hard and the perk you get afterwards actually sucks ass. Really disappointing, but he’s also a super cool character so I suppose it balances out.
Very good. I never had a chance to get her…just Boone and ED-E.
