Fallout 4: Now Playing

I thought the female voice did not chew the scenery enough in the Silver Shroud quest. She sounded like she was trying to do a gruff voice while reading a children’s story. And they never did use The Shroud’s signature line from the radio shows “Death has come to you, and I am its shroud!” I did have a load of fun with the quest, though, and I loved that Hancock got a kick out of it, too. I’m still wearing the Shroud outfit because it’s decent armor, especially after two upgrades, and it’s the most styling getup in the Fallout franchise so far. Unfortunately, I did have to drop The Shroud voice I think twice to optimize the outcome. Otherwise, I couldn’t have saved the poor fanboy.

So, when you play a female character is Shaun frozen with the hubby who is later shot?

Yup.

I like how you can get rich quick ‘n’ easy by making jet. I don’t know if the developers wanted to remind us of Breaking Bad.

Are the Fallout 4 drugs supposed to have real world equivalents? I heard that Med-X is morphine. Is that true? What about the others?

Bethesda originally called it Morphine in FO3, but Australia’s infamously tightassed ratings board was going to ban the game due to a real-world drug reference. They changed it to Med-X to comply.

I don’t think any of the other chems are meant to have specific real-world analogs.

They’re not drugs, they’re chems!

They wanted to add morphine to Fallout 3, but Australian censors balked so they renamed it to Med-X. To my knowledge, no other drug is explicitly a real-world analog. I always thought of Jet as being an amphetamine (low-class association etc.), albeit in a self-contained inhaler form. The wiki seems to suggest that it is an amphetamine as well. Buffout is some type of steroid. And Psycho seems to be something that causes aggression, maybe PCP.

Well, I always think of Jet as heroin. And Psycho as meth or PCP.

Where do the god damned mutant who always attack the Red Rocket come from? I’ve gone looking and can not find where their lair is.

To its benefit, in my opinion. None of the other pharmaceuticals has a “real” name so morphine would have stuck out as odd.

There was the ghoul in FO3 who made Ultra Jet…the one we could sell Sugar Bombs to.

There is no logic to who bothers settlements. Some of these places have big raider camps looming nearby. How the hell did that seem like a good place to set up a farm? But when they get menaced, it’ll turn out it’s by some raiders on the other side of the map. Some super mutants will pass several settlements to kidnap one person and drag them to their lair way off in the distance.

Trying to play again. I did hit one very weird bug at Cambridge Polymer Labs. I was not allowed to pick up the U-238 which would allow me to complete the quest. I could see it, but when I moused over it I could not pick it up. All the other quest items I could get. Weirdly in researching the problem I noticed that a Hazmat Suit that was supposed to be in the Labs was missing too.

Enjoying it a little more this time around though. Ignoring settlements and building as much as I can has helped.

I played some this weekend. A couple irritating bugs popped up, both to do with NPC’s. Overall, I like the game but still rank it behind 3 and NV.

I find enough Jet and other base drugs on my own - I use those to brew the special chems, and sell those to buy shipments of supplies for my settlements. I worry about whether it’s possible to deforest my settlements to the point I can’t salvage enough wood for my building exploits.

Having finished the main quest, I’m currently building a retirement home on Spectacle Island. Great views. Ran out of wood, so it’s unfinished until I run around and scrap a bunch.

I’m trying to build a haunted house* at the drive-in and keep running out of steel.

(like a carnival fun/haunted house where you walk through a kind of maze of rooms and there are “horrors.” I’m collecting skulls and other bones to leave around and feral ghoul bodies, etting up some strobe lights, etc. I’m also assigning all my settler ghouls to sleep there. Eventually I’ll build a light up sign for it.)

I finally picked a side last night. I’ve been putting it off for a while now, but I sided with BOS. Can’t wait to see the big guy in action.

Is there much left to do once the main quest is done? If it’s just a neverending series of Preston Garvey quests I’ll either be starting over again or looking for a new game.

Is there a way to have a one-key shortcut to the use of an item? The cloak boy with its 8 seconds of invisibility is best used when accessible without going into any menus.
Any good sources for glowing fungus or hubflower? Can you grow them with without a mod?

You can key up to 12 items to the + pad on a controller, if you are using one.

What about the members of the master race who will not sully themselves with a controller?

(Thanks for the info, I just don’t have one)

In the inventory screen, highlight the item and press Q. This will bring up a little window to assign that item to a hotkey (“favorite”).
