Anyone have a tip on how to make huge amounts of Caps. I already do the thing with water filters at The Castle, Sanctuary, and Taffington Boathouse, and create a lot of Jet every few in game days and sell off any good high value stuff I won’t use. Is this the best it’s going to get for making caps? Any other lucrative ways? Thanks!

Where x=number of caps to add.
Without using the console command in the above post, selling all chems, armor, and weapons you, your companion, or settlers won’t use is the best way to amass caps. You’ll get better buying & selling prices by ranking up Cap Collector.
I’m currently on my third playthrough and my guy has over 18,000 caps.
I recently noticed that Power Armour mods (the old ones left in your inventory when upgrading the armour) have a much higher value than I’d expected - hundreds of caps for X-01 model mods.
And if there’s an ammo type you don’t use, this has a good weight/value ratio.
What do you plan on doing with all those caps?
I’m on a second playthrough on survival now with a melee & blitz character and I don’t really need a lot of money for anything.
Right, forgot to include ammo up there.
I recently started using mods, one of which adds a 40 mm grenade launcher based on the one in New Vegas. Those things run 250 - 500 each with their (craftable) ammo around 15 each and are right dangerous in the hands of raiders.
I’ve amassed to date, 40,000 caps. Pull in about 5,000 each gaming session now thanks to the tips. Doing good in the Water/Jet business too but was just curious if there was a better way, Thanks all!
…what do you need all that money for?
Just to have?? I didn’t use much money on my playthrough…I didn’t buy a single weapon, maybe a couple pieces of armor.
Yep, just to have. Generally, just trying to see if I can get to 100,000 in a playthrough, no achievements or anything, just want to do it.
Additional idea: It takes some investing in the Perks tree, and also resources, but if you level to Local Leader rank 2 and Cap Collector rank 2, you can build “emporium” type stores in each settlement and assign settlers to run the stores. These generate caps passively in the settlement over time, pretty much no intervention required (other than stopping in at the settlement and looting the caps out of your settlement stores).
It’s fun if you forget to visit a settlement for a few weeks in-game and pick up your receipts. I once grabbed something like 15k caps at once for a settlement that I’d overlooked for a good while.
The stores are also good for generating settlement happiness. And they’re convenient merchants for fencing loot, right in your own settlements.
Like I said, it’s a bit of an investment (at least level 20 and Charisma 6), plus the building costs of the storefronts, but it pays for itself given enough time.
I’ve been playing my main character again to get as many achievements still open to him as I can. At level 104, he has just short of 96K from running missions and selling unneeded stuff. All those caps would come in handy if I decide to have him buy shipments to build up Vault 88.
Just visited Bunker Hill and found 6K waiting for me. Don’t think I ever stopped by their workshop before.
