Interestingly, my grandparents on my dad’s side have six granddaughters and no grandsons. My uncle had one girl, my aunt had two girls, and I have two sisters.

My cousins are mostly boys (12:3). Any girls amongst them are the oldest children, and none of my female cousins have any sisters. On my father’s side, that means two other families identical to mine and one with two boys. On my mother’s side, there’s one family with a girl followed by two boys and two families of three boys each.
The next generation is completely different. All six of the children of my various cousins are girls (so far). That’s three girls to one cousin (though he had two different partners for them), and one girl each to three other cousins.
Working in a school I have noticed that many of our families keep having the same as the first one. We have many families with 3 boys or 3 girls as they keep trying for ‘one of the other’. One Mum is on her fourth boy… It seems that if the first two are the same sex that is what you’ll be getting next too!
As for family, my cousins on Dad’s side are 4 girls and 3 boys who, between them, have 1 boy and 3 girls.
My cousins on Mum’s side are 4 girls and 2 boys who, between them, have 12 boys and 1 girl.
Our first is due in 8 weeks and we don’t know yet…

(Out of my father’s siblings - my father had one of each, the 3rd brother had 2 boys, then 2 girls, then 1 boy then 1 girl, and the sister had 2 girls.)
Thanks to all those who have contributed so far - we’re up to 108 records now:
First Second Count Percent
b b 37 34.26%
b g 16 14.81%
g b 21 19.44%
g g 34 31.48%
So it seems that most likely outcome for us (one daughter and another on the way) is to have another girl… as my wife thought…
The pattern including the third child (for the 78 records where one exists) is also interesting:
First Second Third Count Percent
b b b 14 17.95%
b b g 11 14.10%
b g b 3 3.85%
b g g 9 11.54%
g b b 9 11.54%
g b g 6 7.69%
g g b 10 12.82%
g g g 16 20.51%
Again, keeping the gender the same is the most likely outcome, although less so - going to four kiddlies evens things out much more, with no real outstanding result.
Keep providing data, we’re no where near significant yet!!
