My other half came up with the notion that if your first child is a girl, then you are more likely to have girls as subsequent offspring. I couldn’t find anything in a Google search, so I thought I would conduct a straw poll amongst Dopers - just for the fun of it.
So to start off, here is the composition of my family:
My mother’s family - 4 girls
My father’s - 2 boys, 1 girl. (in that order.)
Mine - 2 boys (me and my brother.)
My kids - 2 girls
Uncles and aunts:
Aunt 1: 2 boys
Uncle - 1 girl
Aunt 2 - 1 girl
Aunt 3 - 2 boys.
Aunt 4 - none.
You see that even if I really, really wanted a boy, I would have been wise to give up at two.
her mom’s family- with grandma as the oldest- had 10 kids, 5 of each sex
Dad’s Family (he has 1/2 siblings from both parents):
Boy (D)
Girl (D)
Boy (M)
Boy (M)
Boy (dad)
Girl
And for the heck of it some friends’ families:
Girl Boy Boy
Girl Girl
Girl Boy Boy
Girl Girl Girl
Girl Girl Boy
Girl Girl Boy
Boy Girl
Boy Boy Girl
Boy Boy Boy
Boy Boy
Boy Girl
