Oh- noooooo!!! Was it comedies only!!! Nooooooo!!!
Damn, guys. Sorry.
Rats.
I have to break character a moment here.
Waltons?
Checks Questions: Name a very successful and Emmy nominated Sitcom from 1970s.
O-Kay Show us Waltons …
Good Night John-Boy.
Bzzzz… X X X.
- All In the Family

X - Waltons
Okay Blue Team, I hope you’re ready.
I saw that, I think it should be allowed in this case.
IvoryTowerDenizen, I apologize, but that was funny.
Sanford and Son, Soap, Alice, The Jeffersons, Rhoda, Maude, Chico and the Man–
I like Sanford and Son, and my husband thinks so, too. Not that his vote counts for much…
Fine. Laugh at my expense. What would Grandma Walton say? :smack:
I’m sorry Teach edited his/her comment. It was funny. Glad I grabbed it in a quote.
I’m an idiot. Sorry Red. sigh.
Just a reminder…
The score is 39 for Blue and 9 for Red. (we are playing to 50 again)
8 points on the board right now. I will work on my next list for tomorrow.
I like Sanford and Son as well.
The Jeffersons is the only other one I’ve heard of, but
Sanford and Son is damn funny!
Heh, yeah, I had one massive WTF moment in my head, posted, and then thought, “Well, that comment just doesn’t help anyone!” I’m thinking, “Nobody had time to read that.” Except for, apparently, you and the host!!!
Neither Sanford and Son or The Jeffersons won any Emmys (in the 70’s…The Jeffersons won a couple in the 80s)
Rhoda and Maude both won Best Actress Emmys (Rhoda 2, Maude 1).
Chico and the Man won a Best Actor Emmy.
So like…if the host counts Emmys won in the 80’s, I am guessing Rhoda and The Jeffersons as 9 and 10. If not, Rhoda and Maude as 9 and 10.
I did not go through the entire Emmy list for all of the 70’s…I have a headache.
(my vote is for Rhoda)
Goddammit. Emmy NOMINATED.
Change my vote to whatever everyone else says. I am going to bed.
I like Sanford and Son because (I think) it was (one of?) the first black sitcom(s) - but I also think the Jeffersons was very cutting edge for its time, as well as a spinoff from All in the Family…
I know very little about old TV, if I was forced to guess one without input, it would’ve been Welcome Back Kotter, but I’ll put my vote behind Sanford and Sons, because of Scrubs.
Oh and Myskepticsight (I almost tried to call you myskepticknight, good thing I checked) sorry about my last comment, it was unnecessarily snarky.
I’ve been playing as though google/wiki was ok, but passing answers during the play period wasn’t, though I guess neither of those really have any sort of official ruling. And my googled answer, Addams Family was a strike too.
I say we go with the Jeffersons
I’ll go for “The Jeffersons” over “Sanford and Son” although both shows were great.
Was “What’s Happening?” ever nominated?
Good Answer! Good Answer!
I’ll go with either Rhoda or Maude.
Not the first by any stretch, but an early one when few where around.
Without searching, I know there was a show called Julia about a widowed black nurse staring Diahann Carroll. I believe it was considered groundbreaking at the time.
Almost forgotten was Bill Cosby’s 1969 sitcom The Bill Cosby Show where he played a gym teacher in LA.
Amos and Andy of course was on in the 1950s.
Another very stereotypical less than enlightened depiction was Beulah.
Sanford and Son started in 1972.
I see 5 votes for Sanford and Son: Dolores, MadTheSwine, Pygmy Rugger, ZipperJJ (weakly voted), Taber
I see 2 for Jeffersons : cmkeller & JpnDude
Abby_Emma_Sasha for Rhoda or Maude
Frosted Glass: I am not sure.
I will wait til 9:30 and then go with the highest total.
Jim
Goodnight IvoryTowerDenizen?
I find it strange that Pygmy was so eager to jump on the Sanford and Son bandwagon.
I wanna change my vote to Pygmy Rugger.
