Family Guy: Quest for Stuff hacks

I have been playing the Family Guy: Quest for Stuff game on my PC using BlueStacks, a program that emulates Android apps. I originally had the game on my ipod but got to the point where it crashed constantly and I couldn’t even get the game to start. So I deleted the game from the pod, but found BlueStacks and started playing it again a few months back.

I saw a group on facebook that makes a hack for this game. Basically it makes everything in the game store free. It does not affect the amount of coins or clams that you have. It does not affect land (which still comes out of your coin bank), speeding up tasks (still comes out of your clam bank), and can not be used to purchase costumes for characters (or ingredients for same). So basically, it can be used to get buildings, decos, and characters that are available for purchase in the store. You can, for instance, get the Crippletron, or Brain Damaged Horse, or the Lincoln Memorial, for free.

I am considering using this to get Cleveland, Consuela, and a few other things that cost hundreds of clams. I paid $10 for some clams back when I had the ipod version of this game and I’ve lost all my stuff from back then. So I feel that I have supported and contributed to the developer, and that $10 is the most that I want to spend on this game. If this hack didn’t exist I would still play the game without spending more than my initial $10. But now I can get some of the more expensive characters and items that I would not otherwise have.

Would you use this hack? Do you feel that it’s wrong for me to use it? Keep in mind that interaction with other players is severely limited, so nothing I do is going to affect anyone else’s game. Also, I have spent money on the game already, so I don’t feel that I’m ripping off the devs or causing them to lose money by anything I’m doing.
I am guessing this will hurt the devs overall because a lot of people will use the hack to avoid spending real dollars at all. But that’s going to happen whether I use it or not. Damn, just realized that sounds like a Pirate’s justification. Am I a Pirate? Am I going to video game hell?

A)I’d use it, wouldn’t bother me.
B)I wouldn’t use it because I like playing the game.

C)If enough people use the hack they’ll close up whatever hole is being exploited. On top of that, I wouldn’t worry about Fox/the devs losing the extra few dollars you’re not going to spend anyways.

D)If they don’t want people cheating, they need to clean up that game. There’s too many bugs, there’s to many crashes, and I’m sick of it taking 2 weeks to get a character. Just tell me how many times to do something and I’ll do it that many times…or just give me that character to begin with and then give me a long questline to complete. But I hate that if I need 10 of something I can get 8 of them in 2 days and the last 2 take a week and a half. I can fully understand why people get really frustrated with that game and find workarounds.
Does that help?

Well I don’t really need “help”, I was just curious what other people’s stances are with using this hack for this game. Thank you for your opinions.

I don’t normally support piracy of any kind unless it’s a special circumstance like the movie/game/etc is out of print and not available for purchase. If I like something well enough to own it, I will support the creators with my cash. If I can’t afford it, then I don’t get it.

But this situation is different because
1)I have already paid money to the devs and supported them.
2)I don’t intend to pay them any more money whether or not I use this hack.
3)I thought it might be interesting to see if there’s people who would support the hack as a backlash against IAP. I know a lot of people hate games with IAP, myself included. I don’t know if I’d go so far as to say “screw IAP, it’s ok to cheat”, but wondered if others would, and how widespread that view would be.

TinyCo recently did some clam accounting and has warned that anyone using hacks could be banned.

Well that certainly would be enough to persuade me not to use it then. I wouldn’t be that upset if I got banned from a clicking game, but I’d rather keep playing. Judging by the amount of traffic on the FB hack page, there’s a good bit of people using it so that probably prompted the crackdown.
