"Family Guy - The Quest For Stuff" game

I know the game isn’t called “Tapped out”, but I have no idea what it’s called, and it is just like TSTO, so i figured I would call it that, if anyone objects, you have my permission to let a mod know and they can change the title. I would look it up, but it’s late, and I wanted to just get this thread started to get us out of the Simpsons thread.
A couple of things i have noticed so far. I am currently on level 4, and I have little idea what I am doing.

I have two tasks which I cannot as of yet complete. One task is permitting me to buy a $4.99 box of coins or something and I get another $4.99 box free. So they are right away wanting you to establish a tie in with the pay-to-play parts of the game.

The second task i have it to connect to FaceBook. Since I din’t want to connect to my facebook account, that is task number 2 that will be sitting for a while.

I’ve fumbled around with this game for a short time this evening, but I already am having difficulty with some things.

  1. moving objects. This is something i will never take for granted again in TSTO. My god, its a pain in the ass. I have accidentally put three different items into storage because I couldn’t move them to where i wanted them to go. This part sucks major balls right now.

2). I don’t understand all the different options that come up in a popup window. I will come back when I actually recall a specific one, but one, if I recall, was something like “take a chance” or “random” or something.

That’s it for now. Just wanted to start the thread. I’ll be back tomorrow with more specific comments.

The name of the game is Family Guy “The Quest For Stuff”

I’ll send a note to a mod with the report post button.

The option that comes ip that I don’t understand reads “Chance”. I have no idea what that means.

GIGGITY

Is the game funny at least? I’m quite the Family Guy fan and even if the game plays a little clunkily I’ll stay for the humor, if it’s there of course.

“Chance” means that you have a chance of getting whatever when you complete the task. You get the XP and money guaranteed, but just a chance at whatever else. Like to unlock Bruce, one of the things you need is jewels. There are like three different tasks by different characters that will give you a small chance to win jewels. You have to keep doing these until one of them gets awarded jewels in addition to the regular money and XP.

That was my guess on that, but I’ve always gotten it in the first shot. I assume, then, that I’ve got a 100% chance because it’s so early in the game and they want things to keep moving, but later on it’ll drop down as I’m more established.

What about things that say ‘common’?

Next, is there away to see what tasks have been completed? For example, Bruce needs several things done. To complete each thing, you have a few options. Last night when I went to bed, I started a few tasks, but some of the things I couldn’t do because characters were locked up on other jobs. No big deal.

Anyways, long story short, I have this funny feeling I’ve done some tasks twice.

I’m sure I’ll get the hang of it. As I said in the other thread, I think the game is a bit overly complicated right now but between playing it some more and people coming to it that haven’t played TSTO first they’ll, hopefully, iron some of that out soon enough.

I’ll be honest, I probably won’t stick with it if the only way to add friends is through facebook.

“Common” and “rare” are just how likely you are to get the item. And you’re right that things are smooth sailing now and the odds will drop as we progress in the game.

The bubbles around Bruce keep track of all your progress on unlocking him. Once you complete them they’ll get a check mark and you can click on it to dismiss it. Maybe what you are seeing is because he needs two Hawaiian shirts. So if you earned one last night, you may have to do the same task again to get the second Hawaiian shirt.

I think what I’m seeing (and I don’t have the game up right now) is that if one of the things requires, say either Bonnie to Twerk or Chris to pick his nose, it’s possible to have Bonnie go and Twerk, but later, while she’s Twerking, it won’t mention that the bubble is already in progress and you just have to wait for it to finish. It’s my understanding that you only have to do one of the things, not all of them (but I could be wrong).

So, you click on the bubble later, Bonnie is busy Twerking, you forget that it’s for THIS job, and you send Chris out on the nose picking mission. Now they’re both tied up, but you only needed one of them.

Does that make sense.

Maybe not. But I know I’ve doubled things up somehow.

Also, for those of you that missed what I said in the other thread, passwords with uppercase letters don’t work. You have to use all lowercase.

Ah, I think I understand what you’re saying. The problem is that Bonnie isn’t guaranteed to get, say, a jewel from twerking. She may or may not. So it will let you send Chris on a task that has a chance to get a jewel too. In fact, you probably want to double or triple up on tasks for “rare” things so you’re more likely to get it done and not have to do the original one again.

It’s going to take me awhile to get comfortable with the new gameplay. It’s WAY less intuitive that Tapped Out.

I think that’s the biggest problem. I mean, why do I need to have Jerome grow out his fro or have Bonnie Twerk or have Quagmire strut to get unlock Bruce? That, to me, doesn’t make sense. And trying to keep that all straight is confusing. But I’m being patient and hoping it makes sense as I get further into the game.

Ok,

I have NO idea what jewels you all are referring to, but I will look for them the next time I start a quest to see what you all are talking about.

I think I figured out the one problem I had where I had to buy clams to complete a task. There is one guy right now walking around with a leaf blower, and I had him working, and I hit another part if town to clear. To do that, you need to add a worker. That costs clams. But if you wait, the other guy will finish, and you can then use him to do the next section.

I am still not sure about this game. As you have pointed out, it is not very intuitive. However, the Simpsons wasn’t immediately obvious to me either, so I’ll give this a few tries.

I don’t like the facebook requirement, so if I can’t add friends with my other account, i won’t continue. That’s not a good approach to me, but I suspect for most people, the facebook thing will be a great thing. The target audience for this game is younger than i suspect most of us are.
Oh, and someone asked if this game was funny. I think so. It is much edgier than the Simpsons and the writers seem to be comfortable taking shots at things like on the show. Bonnie pole dances and twerks, and Quagmire goes on a panty raid for one of his tasks. Quagmire has sexual innuendos with just about everything he’s said so far.

So I have hopes that this will be similar to the tone of the show.

Can anyone tell me how to turn the sound on? I seemed to have turned it off, however the settings show that the music and sound are both checked on in the game, and so are my iPad settings.

All of the other games are working too. So this seems to be particular to the family guy game.

I also noticed something else, that I am sure you are all now aware of. But each character has their own path to a level, so Peter can be on level 3, Quagmire level 2, and Chris level 1.

This is not exactly clear to me as to why, but there it is.

I’m having trouble with my sound too. The background music will play but not the voices or sound effects. I tried turning the settings off and on to no avail.

There is a msg board for the game already. Fan run, not official. Supposedly they are working on a fb workaround. I don’t want to link my real account or make up a fake one, so that would be good.

To move stuff, just tap and hold what you want to move. Some circles go around the item, then you can move it. It’s not intuitive at all. There are other ways, but that’s the easiest. Then moving stuff around is about as annoying as TSTO.

Overall, it’s an ok game. It’s not the best. But it is brand new, so I give them some leeway in ironing out bugs.

I’m wondering what the beta version was like, if this is still so buggy.

I also have to wonder what these developers were thinking. They have the Simpsons game to work from, and could have really made a great game just cleaning up the bugs and flaws in the Simpsons.

Oh well.

I’ll be interested to see the facebook workaround.

Anyone know how to build roads?

I just somehow deleted a chunk of road from the end of Spooner street. Don’t ask me how, because I DON’t know. I was trying to move the Spooner St. Sign when it happened.

I also finally figured out what people were saying regarding the little dots that move around an item. Once that dot makes a complete circle around the item, it is selected, and is much easier to move.

I assume that was why it was virtually impossible to move everything before. I never saw that circle. It seems that the circle is for small items, as houses and buildings can be moved relatively easily.

Things I’ve noticed so far:

  1. i am still confused with the quests, and what is required to finish each one. I am sure as time goes on, I will figure this stuff out but right now, this isn’t intuitive at all.
2). I never have much money. This reminds me of the beginning of the Simpsons game, where money was always a problem. But I figure that, like the Simpson game, eventually you will have enough built that money will come often and fill-up your bank.
3). Clams are hard to come by and are required for a lot of things, not just tangential ones. This will make the game short lived for me if this is the only way to continue.
  2. the very worst part about this game is the attachment to facebook. Having friends is very important for you to get money, especially at the beginning of the game. Without friends, you are stuck with just one town (like the “other Springfield”) to visit. That’s not enough…

Roads are easy. Look along the bottom of the screen for a compass button (a big t) and hit that and you go to edit/move mode. This is the screen where you can move things; look in the upper lefthand corner and you’ll see the button with a pic of a road and a +/-. Hit that and you can add roads. You have to be careful when you’re moving things because it’s easy to accidentally delete roads just by touching them.

I’ve only been playing for two days, but clams don’t seem any more essential than donuts in Tapped Out. You’ll miss out on some content if you don’t have any, but you can still play the full game.

I’m still incredibly confused by this game. Everything about it makes no sense. I just unlocked Al Harringtons and was given a bunch of clothing/costume options for all the characters. I dismissed the screen because I wanted to clear everyone else first and then go back to it. Al popped up and said a bunch of stuff. I dismissed him. Then Peter popped up and told me I had to get Tweaker Peter. Fine whatever. But then this where I get confused, why am I given like 9 different options on how to get it. I can have Quagmire do something or have Chris do something or have Peter do something. That doesn’t even make sense.

Then, when I finally get a chance to go and clear everyone from their overnight tasks, I see Vaseline and jewels along with the money, why? Is that counting towards something.

I feel like by now I should be getting a grip on what’s going on.

I’m not having any problems with money, I’ve got about two grand right now, not a lot, but I haven’t had to save up for anything. I’ve had plenty for everything I’ve needed to buy.

Al Harrington is basically where you go to get skins for your characters and where you can check on your progress towards earning those skins.

To unlock those skins without using clams, you have to collect lots of different things for each one, fireworks, jewels, Vaseline, etc. Sometimes you need fireworks, jewels, Hawaiian shirts, Vaseline, to unlock your characters. YOU CAN EARN THESE THINGS IN THREE OR FOUR DIFFERENT WAYS WITH THREE OR FOUR DIFFERENT CHARACTERS! You don’t have to do it only one way. Sometimes the buildings will produce these things, like hamburgers or fireworks.

You won’t earn any of those things unless you need them for something. So, you noticed you’ve been collecting Vaselines from Quagmires house. Those are counting towards unlocking his “thong skin”, the progress of which you can check at Al Harringtons.
